So the Dark Knight Trilogy got good reviews because it is Marvel?
Different times now in regards to what critics percive that they want to see in a Superhero film!
Saw an interesting thought earlier. If The Dark Knight had come out tonight instead of Dawn of Justice, would we be seeing the same reviews? That it's an overly dark, needlessly moody take on a superhero movie?
I believe we would. Batman Begins came out in 2005, 4 years before Iron Man (2008) the first real Marvel film and it changed how some people (critics) want to see their heroes on the big screen almost back to the Donner Superman years. A brightly colored fun outgoing hero who makes jokes & quips.
Take the last CACW trailer that introduces Spider-Man. its supposed to be serious film or at least the source material is we have the heroes facing off and Iron Man looks up and say "Hey Underoos" instead of a serious introduction to Spider-Man we basically get hey underwear kid!
Take one of the critics problems with MOS and apparently in BvS was the wanton destruction of Metropolis. last night I rewatched one of the first DC Animated features Superman Doomsday (2007) of course based on the Death of Superman story-line.
In it the battle between Superman & Doomsday causes massive damage several buildings collapse (are we supposed to believe that no one was killed?) ad in the final scene Superman crashes Doomsday back to earth from space and and on impact creates a massive crater that takes out several city blocks and shows the shockwave breaking windows across the city. Then later in the film the clone Superman fights the military & then the real Superman when he returns and once again buildings destroyed. Do people not realize that when you have people that powerful things are going to get destroyed it happens in the comic books.
That is one problem I had with Avengers in the New York fight it looks like they only fought over a couple of city blocks with little damage!
