Supreme Court strikes down federal law prohibiting sports gambling

I've never been in law enforcement other than maritime drug enforcement, but I can even tell you that the list of people killed or crimes committed over gambling and gambling debts is a extememly long.

Sports books aren’t going to kill anyone and they don’t allow degenerates to have markers for long. Degenerates get killed when they have to go to bookies to gamble when they are broke etc.. Alcohol kills more people than pot each day. We can play the what if game all day long. Our government makes way too many decisions when there are more pressing matters like child poverty.

Just get rid of welfare. That’ll boost funding for everything, and help pay off debt. 90% of people on welfare could find a job if they actually tried. They apply for the jobs, then tell the company they are no longer interested.

Think you missed the very essence of my post lol.

Pretty sure that welfare $ isn't the difference between increasing debt and paying it off, but i could be wrong

Says WV is one of the states that wants to jump head first into sports gambling. Can't wait to see the commercial now: Dog Track, Slot Machine, Goat, Crack Pipe, 60 year old toothless lady of the evening...what happens in WV....

Having made the drive to and from Snowshoe plenty of times, there can't be but a few hundred people that live in West Virginia, and they don't appear to have a ton of disposable income. I don't see how that's going to support much of a gambling industry.

Ah yes, just legalize everything that’s certainly the answer.

I don't recall people being killed for control of alcohol sales when prohibition ended. Yet when it was illegal some of the worst crime rates in US history happened. Funny how that happens huh?

Would marijuana be affordable like alcohol was ---- if it became legal nationwide ?

Marijuana may soon be legalized in all 50 states for possession in small amounts and the federal government will agree not to enforce federal law. But, the violence will continue and no one will be safer for it. Marijuana users aren’t always users of harder drugs but in my experience those that use hard illegal drugs such as, X, Coke, meth, and heroin almost ALWAYS use marijuana too.

I view this as a very good thing along with legalizing cannabis as well. Why? Because I can lay a bet down any time I want while in the state of Tennessee now. The idea it doesn't take place because there's a law against it is delusional. Every major city in the state today have people placing and taking bets. Legalizing it removes the system of payoffs and graft that comes with making it illegal. The same for weed. The same politicians, cops. lawyers, judges, and bailbonds folks that are part of the legal system have many in their midst as peers that freely use cannabis. The same cannabis that others go to prison for in the hypocritical and politicized system over a plant that grows along the roadside is where we are at.

Affordable? It'd be dirt cheap. Your grandmother likely would grow it on her windowsill next to her aloe plant. Which is THE actual reason powerful forces need it to remain illegal.

With all due respect I understand what you are saying. Thank you for your service to our country in your capacity. My father was in the US coast guard and all they did was chase drug runners which more times than not the hard drugs got through and bails of pot get busted. Money and politics is at the center of this entire discussion its not about sin, addiction, or crime. It’s not okay until they get their cut.

So... you're saying legalize everything? Those hippies in Cali would agree. 😁

I'm sure 75+ years of alcohol related deaths would disagree

Awww what sports needs, even more outside influence on the outcome of games. Nothing good will come from this except maybe making more money for the wrong people.

True, but it takes it out of the outrageously profitable monopolies who control it now. I'm not a casino guy, but the proliferation of casinos around the country hasn't exactly ruined the country like many said. And, we've seen how poorly run casinos will flounder and close, just like any business. I do, however, think it's dangerous territory, with local betting being closer to the arenas.
