Tajh Boyd

I think this will send the message to prospects that Kiffin is on the up and up. He will tell you how he sees it. If he says he wants you for a specicic position, then you can believe what he is telling you. No BS. I don't understand all the hand ringing and teeth nashing over one recruit. Think we would have lost much if we had lost Crompton when he was being recruited. People would have freaked out if that had happened. I think I'll let coach decide who he needs. He has a few mill riding on making the right decision.

I can't help but think how differently the tone would be on this board if Fulmer was still coach and he had lost Tajh... Keep building Lane up guys, want to make sure he gets as high as possible when we all start knocking him down here in five years or so....

Fact is, fulmer is not the coach! Maybe taj would have worked in fulmer's offensive strategy but the fact is he won't in lanes. We haven't played a down of football, so nobody knows anything yet! Let's just see what happens! We've got to support him. He's our coach.

I personally don't see it as a big loss. His style of play in my opinion wasn't the answer we needed anyway at QB. I feel Lane will have a true pocket passer committed in time for next season.

Having grown up in the Hampton Roads area I will speak for the volunteer nation and say we don't want him here.
He's an earring wearing, me first, screw everyone else person. Let him take his skills somewhere else and land in their jails.
Adios to the Michael Vick clone.
Earring-wearing!! God forbid, NO! That certainly means something, I'm sure, not very nice.

Might he have a tattoo? Might he curse? We can't have that now, can we?

His earring-wearing antics may shock us all. Just thinking about his possible indiscretions made me spill my cosmopolitan, and I nearly tripped over my peacock!

I hate to see any athelete decide against UT. I do however find it strange that these High School kids are in the spotlight and suddenly they are committing and decommitting and offering there opinions on who should be on the coaching staff. I hope we get some great atheletes but I also want players that want to come to UT. He would be a good reciever. Let him go play at Michigan. RR needs someone like him or he will be in the unemployment line too.

I think the "G-Gun" is giving recruits the wrong idea of the direction our offense is going. Sure it's nice to have a few gimmick plays in the playbook, but it's not something I'd like to see our offense built around

Thank God, I never wanted him anyways. All he is, is another Michael Vick or Vince Young, who can't throw worth a crap and has terrible decision making. He would've never adapted to our new system, Lane did us all a huge favor this time. I don't care what his rating was, I doubt he'd make it in the SEC as QB.

I dont in any way shape or form trust the character from athletes out of Hampton (ie: duke crews, michael vick, marcus vick)

Brent Vinson went to the same HS with Boyd, that doesn't turn out well either. I guess Hampton / Newport News are just like certain parts of Miami: loads of athletes, but...

But Jerod Mayo was from Hampton though

I wonder how many people here know about the book "Moneyball". I know it pertains to baseball, but I find the lessons contained therein to be highly applicable in this situation.

Yeah the last thing we need is Michael Vick or Vince Young. I'd hate to have someone who could get our team to a national championship on pure talent or a guy who could single handedly beat one of the best teams ever assembled in a national championship. Say what you will about life after college but Young and Vick were two of the finest college athletes ever.

I think it's a bad loss, regardless of if he plays or not if we got him on the hill we could at least get a better idea of whether he could pan out or not. From what I understand he was more of a pocket guy than a dual threat anyways, and if what I've heard about Kiffin calling and saying he was flat out not going to honor his scholarship was true I don't think that's overly bright either.

This hurts pretty bad. Without a new solid QB or a much improved Crompton, Stephens, or Coleman, then next year is deja-vu.

Hopefully Kiffin has something up his sleeve, but I doubt he will step on toes and try and recruit already committed players, especially Barkley who committed to Kiffin's ex-boss who helped him get this job.

I really wish we couldve utilized Boyd. It sure wouldve been refreshing.

G Gun = Fail. Get an offensive mind, player and coach alike that can work that scheme, and maybe it works. Direct snap and run is nothing "sneaky"

You couldn't have seriously expected a solid QB recruit, but not a once-in-a-decade-QB-prospect to start for you next year?

That's just crazy talk. The # of QB's that have any impact as a freshman are VERY rare. He's not Pryor for example. And Pryor would have gotten eaten up by SEC defenses.

All they did was RUN the football, and thats it. Heck Young couldn't even throw the football right.Every time he threw it, his release was side armed. I don't even need to continue about Vick, everyone knows all that he's good for. Boyd will just be another Young or Vick who believes there is an "I" in team.

Have you even seen the kid play...

And what is Vick good for? The only QB to ever be drafted as a RS Soph, much less as the first overall pick?

First black QB ever drafted #1?

Led VT to a national title game?

3rd highest all time mark in passing efficiency in college?

Sure he didn't do as well in the NFL and he had the whole dogfighting thing, but he was a great player.

And as for the whole dogfighting thing, I don't think we can say anything. Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Onterrio Smith, Leonard Little. Any of those names ring a bell?

Also, Vince Young cant pass? He had the highest passer rating in the country in 05 from the regular season. 3rd if you count the Big XII championship and BCS Championship.

He also had whats probably one of the best games ever in that championship game.

How do you know that Boyd would be a "me" person?

What's crazy talk is thinking that Crompton, or any returning QB, will lead us to success next year.
