That’s an oversimplification IMO. While the taliban was composed of mujihadin from the war with the Soviet Union, it’s not like they just changed names. After the war, there was a huge vacuum for power with many competing mujahadin factions. Mohammed Omar started madrasas after the war, until he got fed up with the situation and called on his students (talib) to join him and take power. The taliban actually went to war with other mujahadin factions to seize control.
The final 30 seconds is why I posted this…

Checked news this morning. No coverage. Flipped to BBC and immediately got coverage about this story.
Of course our media isn’t going to cover it. This is a fiasco and it’s Biden’s fiasco. If Trump had pulled out in this manner, this would be on CNN non-stop 24/7. But it is Biden’s issue so they’re running interference.

Grand, this is going to turn into one of those pissing matches where we go back and forth with sources and you dismiss sources that don't agree with your beliefs and we dismiss sources that you provide. All I can say is that there is plenty of info out here that tells a narrative of Bin Laden being assisted by the US in some form or fashion. We can argue which alphabet organization and what timeline, but the information is out there.

My point is the lines aren't very clear on that. Look, I have little doubt someone or multiple someones within what would become the AQI organization ended up with US funds/support at some point since the ISI was slinging cash and weapons out to anyone who would fight the Soviets. But to try to make the case that the US directly (and knowingly) supported bin Laden during the 80s is the extreme version of Pepe Silvia and it's hard for anyone to say the US either knew about the situation or that they knew what would happen with him less than a decade down the road.

Regardless, BB's comments about the US supporting the Taliban before they were even the Taliban is entirely inaccurate.

We can't have it both ways. Either he is running the WH or he's being coached along the way. If the popular opinion is that we basically have a "Weekend at Bernie's" situation going on, then we need to blame this on the people really running the show. Call them the Deep State, an alphabet organization, whatever. But its obvious, to me at least, that Biden is not control of his own faculties, much less in control of how things were coordinated in Afghanistan.

You find out who is really calling the shots and you unravel all of this nonsense over the past 8 months.

Since we don't know who that is then Biden gets all the blame then maybe we can smoke out the real losers. Deal.

That’s not true. All I ask is the senile idiot gets our civilians out before the military leaves. Really wasn’t all that hard

In all fairness, when Trump announced the pull out over a year ago... if i were there I would be leaving.

When Biden announced it would be complete by August 31st. I would have been gone shortly after the announcement.

This was a bungled pull out. Biden and his advisors screwed the pooch. But one year ago, DT released 5,000 Taliban fighters in exchange for a cease-fire to help his flailing presidential campaign, despite strenuous objections from both the Pentagon and the Afghan government. President Ashraf Ghani warned that their release would be a “danger to the world.” There is a lot of blame to be had with this sh!t sandwich.

That was the dumbest thing Trump ever did the fact that we even take prisoners of those people baffles me.

I'm still trying to figure out how according to the poll, the majority of people don't care about Afghanistan, yet are still here saying how Biden has royally screwed this up. If you don't care, why does it matter?
