Tennessee has only one black assistant coach?!

I am going to check out of this thread as I have done many times when race is discussed here

Racism here is so obvious and so hateful like references to BET AND many many others
I am so very grateful these kids came into our lives and I now know so much more
I really believe the old native American saying about never judge a man till you have walked a milein his moccasins

Pretty simple i was the only black in my elemetary school first through 5 th grade, never saw other blacks unless in church or til i got to junior high. Played football hs and some college at jax state. So as far as myself i have had what you call diversity. so it does not matter to me white or black and like some families that live in other diverse areas it may not matter!!

Now as for those kids or families that have not had opportunities to be diverse there are trust issues can you trust a different person that is not the same color of your skin. will they look after the best interest of your child away from home. those are things they wonder when your brand is not stamped!! Alabama is machine it recruits itself, oklahoma, oregon, florida we have to get established, BUILD RELATIONSHIPS that is the key and you have to relate to build those relationships. i did not turn this racial only trying to make some see from the other color of ones skin side. I never grew up in the inner city nor in a black neighborhood but i have been on the bad side of both. Not white person and parents accused of raising kids to be white!! go figure!!

Gotcha. I thought you had a disagreement with a poster that had the same belief you have above. Regardless if people think it's right or wrong, it's reality.
Many years ago I was around basketball recruiting in Memphis for 4 years. Listening to kids. Answering questions. Hearing things coaches say behind closed doors. Hearing things parents say or a father says off the record. Of course you can't generalize that all black parents prefer their son's to be around more black coaches. But for goodness sake, there are many colleges that are made up almost entirely of black students (by the 1000's) that want to go to school with people they are more comfortable with, and I have no problem with that. Obviously, some parents and kids in recruiting feel the same way in regards to a father figure or big brother to watch after you for 4 years. And I don't know why that would be a problem to understand.

Then again, since I understand race and am able to discuss it openly, I am obviously racist to some on here. If people don't understand reality, it's not my problem. First people to shout racism are usually the most ignorant.

White people don't need a WET channel. Pretty much every show and every movie is already primarily concerned with the happenings in white people's lives. And if anyone argues with that point, then they either don't keep up with current media or are intentionally putting their heads in the sand.

I don't agree with the sentiments of the poster that you quoted, but what your saying is the point that the op made. Your saying there is justification for a Black Entertainment Channel because of the lack of perspective in typical programming. The OP is saying that there is justification for hiring another african american coach because of the lack of that perticular perspective which happens to be the majority of football players on the team.

It says that their son and/or their family may have a hard time relating to this staff.

If you think that's racist, what does that say about you?

Really??? I wonder how it would be perceived if I said I would have a problem with my son playing for a predominantly black staff???

It may be "shallow in your opinion" but its not saying that this person believes in the inherent superiority of a particular race. Not racism.
That statement doesn't seem to mesh with the thoughts of some who think that a black football coach would be a superior hire. I am the one saying that it should make no difference to anyone. I don't care if they have 10 black coaches or none, if they do their job well.

It is blatantly racist, and I think that it says that I recognize it, and that you are in denial. They want to base their choice of an academic institution on the skin color of the football coaches. Pretty shallow in my opinion.

You probably hang out in daily life with those people similar to you because you are comfortable with them. My guess is that doesn't include anybody black. Does that mean you are racist?

Why is it ok for you to be that way, but a parent or kid going off to school can't have the same comfort you wish to have.

I understand your perspective but were not talking about one postition. Were talking about the make up of the entire staff and only one position is available.

Part of doing there job well is recruiting kids to Tennessee. A big part. And recruiting is about relationships with the root word being "relate."

Thank you for your perspective. I know it must have been hard on your family at times, but folks with experiences such as yours - learning that acceptance is real - and skepticism also, provide a learning experience for all of us.

What is most needed is true acceptance, and recognition for ones accomplishments, no matter what nationality, race, or creed.

Funny, you make a racist comment then say you're going to "check out" because race is being discussed.

Good post Sparty.

As a teenager, I lived in a country that was 98% black and going through some very tough political times. The only other white kid I saw while I lived there was my brother. I got to experience things from a different standpoint that have stuck with me my whole life.

There is definitely one big difference in my experience though. When I moved back to the U.S. my life changed back to normal for me. That's why I call it an experience. It was two years, not my whole life.

My next door neighbor is black, and I moved next to him. He was here first. He is a great friend who I can count on if needed, and vice versa. Race is not an issue.

Do you honestly believe that BandVol believes that a perticular race has an inherent superiority over all other races?

It's not an issue for you because you live by a black friend, so it can't be an issue for a mom sending her son away for 4 years.

That's flat out tunnelvision. Ask your friend if he understands the different perspective that you have. He will.

Probably not but also dont believe your definition of racism covers it completely. Racism is also hatred or intolerance of another race or other races and abusive or aggressive behavior towards members of another race on the basis of such a belief. In other words it can be as simple as not liking someone because they are different.

if you like your women to be white, does that make you a racist?

Every other member of the SEC has four or more black coaches and we're down to one.
Butch has the good 'ole boy network going. I'd say there's a 99.9 percent chance the new running backs coach is black and should be for multiple reasons all of which are legit.

please remove your TTU logo. I don't want to be associated with "you people"

Maybe or maybe not.

What I do know is it definately cuts down on the number of women you have to choose from, and that is never a good thing.

If you choose your spouse to be white because you are more comfy around cracka women, it doesn't make you a racist. Same thing for a kid going off to school in regards to comfort level.

I don't think so, that's a personal preference. I have never been with a black woman but if Beyonce is willing Id certainly give it a shot. :boobies:

Exactly, and you are hanging out with whom you are comfortable. Nothing wrong with it.

I agree 100%. Pretty much what I said in previous statements.

But I still stand by my second statement. :)
