Tennessee has only one black assistant coach?!

If you choose your spouse to be white because you are more comfy around cracka women, it doesn't make you a racist. Same thing for a kid going off to school in regards to comfort level.

True, I just don't like the double standard. You can refer to white women as cracka women but if someone said n***** women this place would blow up.

Cracka doesn't have the same history. Not hard to understand the difference.

No, it doesn't have the same history, not by a long shot. But it is still racist and rude. Say somebody got a new racial slur against Blacks, and it does not have a history. Will you really want to see it and hear it?

Cracka is a joke to me. Makes me laugh. Who cares really. If that offends, give me a break.

Does it or does it just not get the same attention?

The word cracker or cracka has been used as early as the 1760s, this term was in use by the upper class planters in the British North American colonies to refer to Scots-Irish and English settlers in the south, most of whom were descendants of English bond servants.

the word n***** on the other hand was not always considered derogatory, because it then denoted "black-skinned", a common word derived from the Spanish word negro (black). Nineteenth-century English (language) literature features usages of n***** without racist connotation

You probably hang out in daily life with those people similar to you because you are comfortable with them. My guess is that doesn't include anybody black. Does that mean you are racist?

Why is it ok for you to be that way, but a parent or kid going off to school can't have the same comfort you wish to have.
To go further with this line of logic, why is it not okay for Butch Jones to hire coaches with whom he is comfortable?

Your post above regarding history and race shows that you struggle with the topic and the "history" I was referring to in our country.
Stop worrying about your feelings hurt and double standards.

You guys are really ragging on Sparty? Some of the crap that has been spewed in here and this is what you are jumping on the bandwagon about?

I can honestly say that at no point in my life has the use of the word cracka ever brought into question my standing in the world as a human being.

It DOES NOT hold the same meaning.

It certainly is fine. Its also fine to use common sense and know that you have to make decisions based on the market when running a business. And he is basically running one. Recruiting is the market and anything can matter to a recruit.

Yours shows that you struggle with reality rather than emotional stigma.

The NAACP only has one lighter skinned black guy on staff. The lighter blacks are upset that the darker blacks outnumber them a lot to one.

Your thoughts?

Little Sparty will be fine. The word cracka has never bothered me either I just dont like double standards.

White people don't need a WET channel. Pretty much every show and every movie is already primarily concerned with the happenings in white people's lives. And if anyone argues with that point, then they either don't keep up with current media or are intentionally putting their heads in the sand.

Obviously you don't follow current TV then yourself. Many different nationalities makeup TV programs. It's only racist when it applies to white people. Do you want to argue whether the NAACP is racist or not?

I can tell you that as a businessman I have hired and have kept people on that I was not necessarily comfortable with or even really liked as a person. I kept them because they were good at what they did. As the boss, I learned to deal with them (sometimes even flat out put up with) because, from the business standpoint, they were good. It isn't always about the guys on the bottom having to deal with things. A good leader knows how to adjust their feelings accordingly.

Gimme a break. If you are that offended, you are wound tight.
I am a person of Scots-Irish descent, and a descendent of English bond servants. My ancestors were slaves. The term cracker was used as a derogatory term to describe them 250 years ago. I haven't forgotten that fact, and neither has Hopvol. Am I offended? Depends on the context and the person saying it.

I think anyone that breaths has double standards about something.

My wife reminds me of mine all the time. I personally don't believe that I have as many as she says I do. I just change my standards depending on what it is that she is wanting me to do.

As far as this conversation goes though. Sorry. I don't agree. The two words have no business ever being used in the same sentence as a comparison, much less being called a double standard. JMHOT.

Huh? I'm the one having to explain reality to you and you are the one emotional about double standards and cracka hurting your feelings.
Cracka.

Lol, way to prove my point. I'll explain it real slow this time so maybe you can understand. You mistakenly referred to the stigma of a word as history. I attempted to show you the actual history of the words pointing out that one did not even originate as a slur but took on a derogatory connotation over time.

Really?????? I know I was going to shut up but on what frigging planet do some of you live?
Are you in any position to say that a coach has the right to only hire a white coach because he is more comfortable while 80percent of the players are black as are the recruits?
Can you do the history on how long the Vols have not been a majority Black team? Go ahead put your head further in the sand and maybe that will make you feel better

I can't take my kids to dinner without the judgement of white people and black women especially when my significant other is not with me. If I am in a grocery store you should see the strange looks and the pure hatred from others

I agree with first two paragraphs. The third we just disagree, no big deal. :hi:

I am also Scottish Irish and I could care less what term was used 250 years ago. I also grew up playing basketball in the hickory hill area of Memphis and was called a cracker daily. Sometimes meant as demeaning. Sometimes in a friendly way with high fives. I just don't care.
That you really care about it because an ancestor in Scotland in 1775 was called a cracker has to be a joke.

So just to clarify... you are a black man with a white wife?

The history of the word cracker and history of the n word in this country aren't debatable topics.

Now, if you want to turn this present day race lesson into a line of smartass comments and jabs, feel free. That's where posters go when they are getting their asses handed to them in a discussion.
