Tennessee has only one black assistant coach?!

I can agree with that to an extent. I personally think that relating to a young man in the "football sense" is a little different than relating because of skin color though. I may be completely wrong though.

I like to try and give these young men and their families the credit of making decisions that are best for their futures (ie...trying to get to the NFL, or whatever else they are looking forward to doing with their lives). Neither of which should have anything to do with the color of the skin of the person telling them about their options.

That is JMHO though, and as I said, is quite possibly not the reality of things.

I think it's a cultural thing. If you have a white guy who grows up around mostly black people, that white guy is gonna feel comfortable around his normal surroundings, even in some cases be called a "wanna be". But that's what he knows. Too much is being made about race/black or white here IMO. A black kid from Memphis, Cleveland Ohio, Chicago, Atlanta that grew up in a mostly black enviornment might not be able to connect to an all white staff. Just as a white kid from Stinking Creek Tennessee might not relate to an all black staff. There are cultural differences, right or wrong. I'm one to think diversity amongst the staff is a must in order to consistently rake in top recruits, JMO.

Firstly...to lighten the mood in here. The bolded is racist IMO. :eek:lol:

This is probably true. Background and what you are used to and comfortable with probably play as big of a part as anything.

Well stupid or not, most are trying to get there kid the next level. they must have done something right to get their kids looked at by top schools. they must have done something right by having you watch their kids on tv. they must have done something right because lots of them are making millions in the NFL. so before you call some stupid may need to watch what you say because the one stupid may have opened the mouth to call another stupid.

here is something for your to remember. It is better to be perceived to be a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!! thanks
Perhaps you should read my post one more time, and with a little better attempt at comprehension. I based my supposition on "if what you said is correct, then...."

And , your last sentence applies to everyone. Please try to remember that before you misinterpret someone's words, and fly off on a tangent. If you need help understanding the points that I am attempting to make, please feel free to ask for clarification. Thank you.

Please correct me if I misunderstood what you are trying to say. I believe that you are saying that a lot of black recruits and their parents place less importance on the state of the football program at a school, and the type of education that the recruit will receive, than the color of skin of the man who recruits them.

If what you say is correct, it would seem that the recruits and their parents are too stupid and shallow to make a decision on the future of the young man.

:glare:

I went back and read his statement and then reread your statement. I have to say. I don't have any idea where you are coming from with your statement. You missed the mark completely.

Here is my point. He said that I "called someone stupid." I actually said that they were stupid and shallow "IF what he said was true," about black recruits choosing a school based on the skin color of their recruiter.

He's been clueless throughout this thread. It's all based on racism for him. Racist black people (which do exist), that's what he's getting off on. Totally incapable of seeing the cultural differences in the two races that come into play.

Every other member of the SEC has four or more black coaches and we're down to one.
Butch has the good 'ole boy network going. I'd say there's a 99.9 percent chance the new running backs coach is black and should be for multiple reasons all of which are legit.

Who cares. If a person is qualified for a position then they should get the job. Say we should have black coachs because "thats how it should be" is a racist statement

Can you explain your reasons?

You are looking at the op and only thinking of extremes. Im sure theres not a ton of recruits who continuously choose a school based on the skin color of the coach.... but your fooling yourself if you dont think that people naturally feel more comfortable around people who are similiar to themselves.

And some of you need to be REAL careful throwing around the "R" word. I dont know if the op is racist or not but his comments certainly were not.

OK It's been awhile since I have been here
I am only going to say that if my biracial son chooses to play at a college level this imbalance would lead me to make different decision

Than most universities are racist and most large organizations are racist who believe that having a diverse workforce or student body is a benefit to those they serve.

The race card is complete BS. I guess JG leaving is because of ole Whitey! Now go watch your BET, because if we had WET that would be racist!

You and 89 hoss appear to be the ones who think that it is okay to pick a school based on the skin color of the recruiter. I am the one saying that race shouldn't matter. If you don't agree, who is the racist here?

Not surprised and NOT a racist decision.

I just read it again. Still not seeing what you are talking about. He said...my translation at least...He and his sister can relate to pretty much anybody, because of where they were raised. This is not the case for all the young men playing football and trying to get into college though. They may want to go to a particular school, but they may not be comfortable speaking with particular people because of their cultural differences.

It is a comfort level thing. Not, necessarily a deciding factor...but it sure wouldn't hurt to have a recruiter that makes them feel more comfortable.

My doctor is an aging woman. Why? Because from a comfort level standpoint...I really don't want a dude touching my body IF I have a choice in the matter. From a marriage standpoint. Young female doctor was out of the question. Aging female doctor fit the bill for me. Would I go to another doctor. Yes. But if I can go somewhere where I feel more comfortable...why?

That says I am an adoptive parent that would walk through fire for my kids and that I want him to have as many excellent role models from both races to lean on
I cannot provide a Black experience for this kid and I cannot truly understand the many racial injustices that are still very real

I in no way said all coaches should be lack nor white nor Asian etc etc
I said I wanted MY SON to have the experience

It says that their son and/or their family may have a hard time relating to this staff.

If you think that's racist, what does that say about you?
It is blatantly racist, and I think that it says that I recognize it, and that you are in denial. They want to base their choice of an academic institution on the skin color of the football coaches. Pretty shallow in my opinion.

: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

-Merriam Webster

Some people need to take a long hard look at this definition and make sure it applies before you throw it out there.

White people don't need a WET channel. Pretty much every show and every movie is already primarily concerned with the happenings in white people's lives. And if anyone argues with that point, then they either don't keep up with current media or are intentionally putting their heads in the sand.

It may be "shallow in your opinion" but its not saying that this person believes in the inherent superiority of a particular race. Not racism.
