I can agree with that to an extent. I personally think that relating to a young man in the "football sense" is a little different than relating because of skin color though. I may be completely wrong though.
I like to try and give these young men and their families the credit of making decisions that are best for their futures (ie...trying to get to the NFL, or whatever else they are looking forward to doing with their lives). Neither of which should have anything to do with the color of the skin of the person telling them about their options.
That is JMHO though, and as I said, is quite possibly not the reality of things.
I think it's a cultural thing. If you have a white guy who grows up around mostly black people, that white guy is gonna feel comfortable around his normal surroundings, even in some cases be called a "wanna be". But that's what he knows. Too much is being made about race/black or white here IMO. A black kid from Memphis, Cleveland Ohio, Chicago, Atlanta that grew up in a mostly black enviornment might not be able to connect to an all white staff. Just as a white kid from Stinking Creek Tennessee might not relate to an all black staff. There are cultural differences, right or wrong. I'm one to think diversity amongst the staff is a must in order to consistently rake in top recruits, JMO.
