Tennessee has only one black assistant coach?!

No, I understand that black people are racist too.

This has nothing to do with being racist. And yes black people are racist, I'm black and I have no issues admitting "reverse racism". It's pathetic and pisses me off to no end. But I also fully understand the significance of a diverse staff. I'd be willing to bet 90% of the people on here saying it doesn't matter are white. Yes that will piss people off but it's true. Which leads me to wonder how they would even know if it matters.

I am sure that it matters to people who are racists. If I understand you correctly, in the eyes of black recruits and their parents, it makes no difference what is in their coaches' hearts or brains, what matters is the color of their skin. That is the definition of a racist.

Not true. There's a difference culturally in many cases. Nothing racist about it from my point of view. But yes in some cases I'm sure there are black parents/kids who are racist and would be turned off by it. Those folks are shallow and don't deserve to play for the University of Tennessee.

But not everyone is racist. A white kid shouldn't have to play for an all black staff unless he so chooses to IMO. But to deny the cultural differences would be silly IMO.

How many kids have we lost because of this? How many kids do we recruit in the ghetto where this will actually be a factor?

All kids now a days go to public schools. Kids of all walks of life. Different color teachers. Coaches. Etc.

IMO. Any kid that doesn't want to go to school for a white or black coach isn't smart enough anyway to use his free education.

You say that a white kid shouldn't have to play for an all black staff, unless he chooses to. Nobody is forced to play for anybody, anywhere. I honestly could not care less what color Cuonzo Martin and his staff are. I am not sure if there are whites on his staff or not. I haven't paid any attention to the staff in the games that I have seen on TV.

I also don't care what color Butch Jones and his staff are. If a recruit or his parents care, that is their problem. I don't judge people based on their color or culture. I leave that for the racists.

the other schools will use the lily whiteness of our staff against us in recruiting and it will be a factor, you don't have to like it but it is what it is

Why does diversity scare the crap out of so many posters on this board? If you show me an assistant coach, I can probably show you another coach that is just as qualified but of a different race. Anyone who believes that you have to sacrifice quality on a staff to have diversity needs their head examined. Anyone that believes that the lack of diversity won't hurt you on the recruiting trail is living in a fantasy world. No doubt it will be used against us on the recruiting trail by other recruiters. If you don't have to sacrifice quality to have diversity, why not have both?

Don't think many people are afraid to hire black people. This isn't the 60s grandpa so if you can catch up to the late 90s you would understand that black people are being hired, brother. You do know we have a black president right? Coach Jones hired the staff he knew. There are fewer blacks than whites in coaching. Want proof, check the NFL for your black coaches. There is just fewer in number. Btw, James Franklin says hi.

Also, give Vandy credit for not only hiring a black head coach but a gay one at that. Two for one package.

You keep bringing up racists, lol.

Every other member of the SEC has four or more black coaches and we're down to one.
Butch has the good 'ole boy network going. I'd say there's a 99.9 percent chance the new running backs coach is black and should be for multiple reasons all of which are legit.

I cannot wait for football season to start!

It has been stated repeatedly by lots of the big corporations in the Knoxville area that it's hard to recruit African-Americans to the area, because it's predominantly white. Same thing is true for UT trying to increase the number of black students.

Not everyone wants to be one of the relatively few minority members around. (I spent my teenaged years as a white in a predominantly Asian culture, and so I sort of know what this is like, but without the tons of painful history that magnify this for many American blacks.)

Good coaching is more than teaching X's and O's. There's mentoring and role modeling going on as well, when it's done right, and that often works best when it comes from someone with some similarities in background. Not an automatic requirement, by any means, but it can help. I don't think there's anything odd or negative about thinking that it's an advantage to have another black coach on staff.

And I do remember all the posts here on VN when CJG was rehired that said (among other things) how great it was that we had a great African-American coach on staff.

IMO JMO TIFWIW YMMV BBQ TGIF ETC. :hi:

Yes, we need more black coaches. Most of the dominant SEC players are black. What's so wrong with a parent wanting to send their son to play for other strong black men to lead them. I know for a 100% fact race can be a factor in kids homes, so you either play the game or act like it doesn't matter. Well, it can matter.
Grow up. Discussing the obvious doesn't mean you are a racist. Not discussing the obvious means you are in denial.

The basketball staff makes up for any imbalance in the football staff. You won't find that at most SEC schools.
Our next RB coach should be the best coach available whether he's black or white, but especially if he's Orange.

BULL$HIT IT'S RACISM TO THE UP MOST:hi:

You seriously believe that Saban will go into a house and say " we have more black people on staff than Tennessee does?"

Wow, I can tell when it's getting late at night.

No legit black football player is coming to a campus to play football. When everybody and there mom is wearing a NOBAMA T-shirt... THE CULTURE OF THE UNIVERSITY GOT TO CHANGE.

Damn that sound like Barack Obama!!!!!

Couldn't have said it better myself.
