The general USC debate thread (merged)

me thinks that SC site is being way too optomistic

I'm pulling for at least a loss of some bowl games. Scholarships are a given. If these guys are outright paying players they need to receive a hefty sentence. And of course probation, which will be interesting to watch with their new coach. Vacating wins is a slap on the wrist.

You people that abandoned the Vols for USuCk are making me sick. You guys better just setup camp at a Trojan fansite and stay there!

Stupid post. You will never catch me rooting for USC. I am just being realistic. If you think the hammer is coming down on USC then you are setting yourself up for a big disapointment.

Thanks for playing!

Thats what I hear. But I have heard that it was going to happen next instead so I guess no one really knows.

Bump.

.....still waiting for the hammer to drop, or 10 posters to tell me that nothing will happen.

Anyone know when the verdict will be in?

A spokesperson from the NCAA said there is no set date for the verdict and all reports saying otherwise are false.

It's tough to come up with a fair punishment in these cases.

If you take away Heismans, vacate wins, vacate National titles, nobody is actually punished.
A: "Who won the Heisman in '05?"
B: "Reggie Bush, oh yeah but they later took it away, but he was awesome that year wasn't he?"
A: "Who won the national championship in '04?"
B: "Well the NCAA doesn't actually even award a national champion. But USC was definitely the best that year."

But if you take away scholarships, bowl games, tv appearances, etc. you are punishing people who weren't even involved. The kids who would be punished were in middle school when the infractions occurred. And usually, the coaches have moved on as well. Obviously, with Kiffin now being back as USC, you could at least get one of the culprits, but Carroll won't feel a bit of any of this.

I'd like to see the NCAA take less time with investigations so that even if you don't get all the evidence and can't bring down the hammer as severely, you are at least more likely to punish the people who committed the infractions.

In this case they're not worried too much about punishing those involved. They are looking to punish the institution for a lack of control.

In that case, I see the ban on scholarships and bowl games fair. But, I do not see the TV ban as fair. There is no need to punish the other teams that play them during the TV ban. That is essentially taking money out of that programs pocket for USC punishment. I could see them punishing USC by not letting them take any profits from their televised games, though.
