The Great Labor Force Debate

Considering they are out there working and helping putting food on your table, agricultural jobs are skilled jobs.

I swear SOME of you guys really are pathetic and have a lack of respect for other people.
I'm 110% behind you with the sentiment. But unfortunately, when you keep using the term "skill", that rubs them the wrong way. I'm sure that if you went away from that term, however, that they would find some other reason to disagree with you.

The simple fact is that this isn't about "skilled" or "valuable". It is about justifying lower wages and justifying maximum control of employees... even as far as what they can force in their bodies.

No but there is a very heavy redistribution sentiment being thrown around. It's not the first time either
Saying that most of these people are underpaid isn't a redistribution scheme, either. It could just be that they might be underpaid.

I never said anything about 'redistribution". I said people at what is considered the bottom of the ladder should be paid more.

There are actually libertarian and traditional capitalist authors that even advocated or suggested higher wages in the past. And probably some today as well.

You maybe haven't used the word but you've used the concept. Just paying everyone more money fixes nothing

Critical disagreement is not emotion.

On balance, I see nothing good came of it since we can't isolate the part we like whether he advocates it or not.

Surely, I can say good things came out of a bad situation. The American worker finding out they are more powerful than they realized is one. On a personal note, I got to spend lots of time with my fiance before she passed (unexpectedly) during lockdown. So, yeah good can be found in bad situations.

Are you afraid that if they paid people at the bottom of your company more that it is somehow going to hurt you?

You said artificially increasing wages would be bad because a company doesn’t eat that cost. They wouldn’t necessarily have to if wages were more aligned like they use to be.
So the increase in a CEOs pay should be redistributed to the lower paid workers? What should be the cap?

Artificially inflating wages hurts everyone. Companies do not just eat those costs

So, why in 30 years are exec wages up 1000% and worker bees up 18%. The pie has gotten larger and those in charge are taking a bigger chunk and telling those at the bottom they aren't worth anymore money.

It is not artificially inflating wages its a correction.

why the wage envy? Also what kind of people numbers are we talking when making the comparison? Easily misconstrued based on the sample size

A "correction" would still hurt everyone. You can't artificially correct wages without affecting everyone's bottom line

It is also about his incessant need to link a perceived disrespect with the label of unskilled. I think that is ridiculous and lazy.

Much more interesting to me though is your opinion on how I, as an employer, exert maximum control on my employees in a job where they can move laterally to other jobs with ease?
