The hire Al Golden Thread

Would not be my first choice. What makes people think he can win in the SEC? He is not exactly tearing it up at Miami.

I mean obviously nobody is a sure thing. But I think he was dealt a tough hand at Miami. He was one of the biggest coaching names in the country when he was hired there.

What he did at Temple was absurd. I get that he's not everyone's first choice, but I think we could do a lot worse.

At least this scare might give us some perspective. My acceptance of a non Gruden coach will exponentially increase now if it's not Golden. Malzahn, for instance. Before I would have grumbled. Now, I'd just celebrate that it would have been worse.

He is definately not the worst hire I could imagine ( Petrino, Franklin) but Tn would be a pretty tough hand every year. To start it would be Oregon, FL, AL, SC, Ga,. We need someone who has won under the worst circumstances everywhere they have been. JMO.

Tennessee needs to make a big time hire that will make an immediate splash. Golden is not that guy. I'm sorry but there's no way he will be our coach

Winning Percentage

Dooley-44%
Golden-45%

No thanks.

Golden has been screwed since he got off the plane. To have a decent season at temple was an accomplishment before Golden. He was a top defense guy at Penn state.

Someone is on crack. He is the worst of all the choices, IMO. Anyone ever watch a Miami game? He really brings in the crowds, too.

Then he should go back to Penn State since that's his alma mater. I hear Bill O'Brien has refused to sign a contract extension. Golden might get his opportunity.
With a 39-45 HC record, they can have him.

If hired will they get someone to iron his dress shirts? Seriously though Charlie Strong's name is not mentioned that much. Heard Bill King give his endorsement of him this morning. Louisville will pull all the stops to keep him and he may not interested in coming to Knoxville. But he should be in the top 5 of all conversations. Don't be surprised if Auburn or Arkansas don't go after him.

We would strike out on a lot of guys before al. I'll take Tom O'Brien.

Did you mean Bill O'Brien? I would take O'Brien in a heartbeat. However, looks like he's headed back to the NFL. He hasn't ruled it out and will not commit to being at Penn State next year.

Are we talking about the same guy? Al Golden has recruited well, but still can't win with those guys. I'd be furious if we hired this guy. He's the only candidate that's been named that I couldn't talk myself into getting excited about. Surely we wouldn't hire a guy who's failing at a football school like Miami. Surely not...right?

Petrino before Golden....I'm just saying.
