The hire Al Golden Thread

If we have to defend Golden's resume before he even takes the job, I will be like Obi Won and say, "This isn't the coach we've been looking for."

If we hire Golden, Hart might as well be fired. A mediocre coach at Miami with one of the worst defenses in the NCAA. They actually are ranked lower than us in total defense. I don't give a crap what kind of restrictions he has; he has an easier conference in a talent rich region. Another low rent hire like this and you might as well kill Tennessee football. Hell I'd rather keep Dooley than hire this guy.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I think he would be solid. He's a young guy with successful rebuilding experience. He would be the kind of coach you hire that sticks around for 25 years. Might win a few titles along the way.

I could see it. I could be into it.

I would still rather go after a couple of other guys first though.

This is just irrational.

How Golden is at the top of the list is beyond me....

If Gruden is a no you would think Strong, Patterson or Fitzgerald would have to be at the top of that list

Miami is ranked 115th in total defense out of 120 teams. That's playing ACC competition. Can anyone give me a decent reason to get excited about that?

Yeah, I'm really hoping we get a guy who can be here for 25 years and maybe, just maybe win the SEC 3 times. Wow. Way to aim high.

Why the heck would we hire a guy with a losing record again and hasn't really proven anything? One good year at Temple? One bowl game and lost it in his career?

No Thanks!

Not a "home run" hire to me.

Not 100% for Al Golden but....

His first job was taking over the only team that I can think of in the past 25 years that was so bad it was actually kicked out of a conference and building them to respectability. They went 0-11 the year before he took the job and by his 4th year they won 9 games, his career record took a beating the first 3 years (10-26). Without those years on his record he is 28-19. Also consider Miami took self imposed penalties and suspended many players during his first year over an illegal benefits scandal that happened under Randy Shannon.

Just saying you need to look beyond the record.

This. Most people look at his overall record & automatically assume he's Dooley 2.

If I didn't have a good friend that's a Miami fan I'd probably look at his record & say the same thing. But after following Miami a little closer since AG has been there I can honestly say I'd be really happy with him at UT if we miss on Gruden.

What he did at Temple was pretty amazing when you look at just how bad that program was before he got there. Also, I don't think people realize how bad the situation was/is at Miami. He has had a younger team than we did in DD's first two years at UT. The majority of his two deep depth chart is freshman & sophomores. He has done things the right way since being in Miami following all the scandals from previous regimes. He's a good guy that can recruit & would be very successful at UT. I have very little doubt that he wouldn't. I'd take him in a heartbeat if Gruden says no.

well to be fair, he only had 40 or so 4* players on his Miami roster and 4 5*s, so he hasn't had much to work with down there. :ermm:

People are killing me with this Al Golden talk. He hasn't done SQUAT and the Canes are getting KILLED any time they play a good team.

I'm all for campus wide riots if we hire Golden.

I'll bring these guys, you bring the mattresses...
