The hire Al Golden Thread

No golden, he hasnt done crap at miami.. and if you say look what he did at temple, hell you can win 4 games at temple and be doing something..

Did you mean Bill O'Brien? I would take O'Brien in a heartbeat. However, looks like he's headed back to the NFL. He hasn't ruled it out and will not commit to being at Penn State next year.

Yes Bill, he's between 6-8th option.

No please no Al Golden reminds me too much of Dooley. Like Dooley a lot of his focus is on things off the field like the VFL program. We need a coach who can manage players and win

With this logic, looks like Paul wants the job as well.

I'd be ok with it.

Ahh... this is the same cat that took and azz whipping a few weeks ago. I'll pass.

A head coach with a defensive background who has a defense statistically in the bottom of all of college football? Is there something I'm missing here?

I find hard to believe that the decision makers would roll the dice on a sub .500 Head Coach.

The "well he did take Temple blah blah balh" and "he's a good not great recruiter" arguments for this coach dismiss the huge white elephant in the room. Namely, HE HAS A LOSING RECORD AS A HEAD COACH.

The last time that fact was overlooked. . . .

HOMERUN Hire! Golden would not be that. I would take back Fulmer for a while before Golden (don't bash me. I am not Fulmer lover, but I think he has learned some valuable lessons that make him better than all but the top 4 or 5 coaches we may be considering.). I don't want to take any more high risks. Another high risks and I will be dead before we are relevant again.

Al Golden would struggle at UT without a hotbed of recruits at his doorstep like he has in Miami.

It seems alot of sports media types like Al Golden, but he ges hammered here on VN when his name gets brought up. All I know about him is that he took a football nobody in Temple and made them competitive, and was misled about the Miami situation when he took the job and may want out. Very average year for Miami, but they did beat VT. Just curious as to why most on here are anti-Golden. Give me some solid reasons besides the fact that he's not Gruden. Thanks ya'll.

Jimmy Hyams reports this morning the talks with Gruden have broken off. They could not reach agreement. The A list includes, Mike Gundy, Bob Stoops, Al Golden, Jim Mora Jr, and Charlie Strong.

Hyams has no idea what the hell is going on in the UT AD.

I think most of the problem with Golden is that he can't seem to win games against weak azz ACC opponents, with a huge recruiting "hotbed" right outside his own front door. DO NOT WANT!
