Yeah...23 points and 11 rebounds a game really sucks....

I'd hate to have him here....who needs that kind of production

sorry you dont know enough about basketball to be able to see things for yourself.

yeah, you are a smart one. I think I will go ahead and say to hell with this argument, I don't have to prove myself to you, there are plenty on this board who realize that I have a pretty good knowledge of the game.

Realizing that academics, defections, and summer shenanigans will inevitably impact some of these teams, here is the first Halfcourt Trap Top 10 for the '08-'09 season:

1. Pitt. Jamie Dixon's most talented squad will be tough enough to survive the meat grinder in the Big East and bring the trophy to the Steel City.
2. North Carolina. By far the most talented team in the country. However, their playing with both hands firmly placed around their throats against Georgetown and Kansas in the last two NCAA tourneys tells me there is a lack of testicular fortitiude on that squad.
3. Louisville. Had they played UNC in any of the other 49 states in the regional final, they would have been in the Final Four last season. Pitino will not have to worry about playing on someone else's court on the regionals this year.
4. Arizona State. From the NIT to the Final Four. Herb Sendek will lead Pendergraph and Harden to college basketball's promised land.
5. UCONN. Jim Calhoun doesn't stay out of the spotlight for long. The Huskies will be deep and talented. That recipe has won them two National Championships.
6. Michigan State. Tom Izzo is due for another deep tourney run. He now has the horses to do so.
7. Villanova. Guards win in college basketball. Nobody has a more explosive backcourt at their disposal than Jay Wright.
8. UCLA. Despite their early defections to the NBA, the Bruins will be just fine. Ben Howland will never allow them to fall far.
9. Memphis. Another program that will weather their personnel losses just fine. Cal has enough talent at his disposal to make a run at a fourth straight Elite 8.
10. Tennessee. The Vols will put the most physically talented team in program history on the floor. Experience and point guard play are the only question marks that keep them out of the top 5.

But I will say my list would look something like this

1.UNC
2.UConn
3.Pitt
4.LVille
5.Purdue
6.Notre Dame
7.Villanova
8.Michigan State
9.UCLA
10.Memphis

With Tennessee,ASU,Duke,Oklahoma,Gonzaga,Wisconsin, and Georgetown also competing for a Sweet 16 birth.

Big East fans better enjoy this season because it'll be the most dominating conference since I've been old enough to watch basketball

I'll also be very interested in seeing how Arizona, USC, Wake Forest, Kansas, and Florida do. They could make some noise come March

Pretty solid, I agree with you on the Big East this year. As stacked as it normally is, this season will be insane.

No Duke homer stuff, I expect an average season this year for the Blue Devils

Average by Duke standards yes, better than last year though. The addition of Williams should be pretty big, I would expect to see a lot more of Smith at the point.

For sure. I wasn't a big proponent of him seeing starting time last year. Now that he's had a year and now that several other key players have progressed I expect big things from him. As of now I'll say Sweet 16, but I'm concerned down low. This team needs another Sheldon Williams. There inability to rebound or do anything in the paint cost them dearly last year.

I also should add that I'm not that big of a Gerald Henderson fan. He's loaded with ability and potential, but until he can come out and be a solid all-around player I'll question him. Saying that, he has the potential to come out and be dominant this season I believe.

Near the end of last season he was starting to flat out ball. Duke would have been the victim of a rather embarrassing upset if not for him. I am with hat in thinking he will be in POY contention, he definitely has the potential. As someone who can't stand Duke, I love to watch Henderson play.

Maybe, I just don't have that confident feeling. But he has the potential for sure

As for my POY candidates, since this is a projection thread we should list them i guess

Mine would go something like
Clark
Thabeet
Calethas(probably a stretch)
Hansbrough(They then can name it the "ESPN and Dick Vitale" award.

There's a couple of Freshmen that impress me, but I won't judge until I see them in action at the collegiate level.

You also may want to group a healthy Terrance Williams into that cluster of POYs

I'm not buying all the Purdue hype. I saw them play quite a few times last year. They will content for the Big Ten title, but are no where near a top 5 team. I see the Big Ten being way down this upcoming season.

Right now I'm thinking that UNC is an Elite Eight team at best.

That could be one of the boldest predictions I have ever heard...The team makes an elite eight in '07, final 4 in '08 (that's improvement), and will essentially have the same team out on the floor from the 2007 brigade. They played one bad (and I mean really bad) half in the tournament, down by 35+ points at one point and came back to within 4, and this was in the final 4! They lost to the National Champions, and have probably one of the top 3 best coaches in the country right now...Now I understand if they don't win the NC, because it only takes one bad game, but you think someone will knock out a team in that is this solid in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8? To boot, Wayne Ellington lost his shot around half way through the season! Anyways, you're crazy
