The (many) indictments of Donald Trump

It was an ugly day. I just don’t see any scenario of events that would have concluded with Trump still in power.
Trying to rob a bank by pointing your fingers against the inside of your jacket pocket and saying it’s a gun is a really bad plan, too. Doesn’t change the fact that your plan was to rob a bank.

Sure. I’d definitely say Trump wanted to stay in power. I don’t see how the riotous mob constituted the mechanism by which he would achieve that.

Could he want an insurrection, and the mob not be an insurrection? Idk.

The judge said

“between $18 million and $27.6 million."

Trump's expert on valuation "pulled the number from his head and that his method for determining value was not re-creatable" without any objective basis or support. This expert was also a member at MAL.

For you to be qualified as an expert (in NY or anywhere else), you have to use generally accepted principles for valuation to be admissible as an expert.

Since this did not happen, the judge had to rely on the only piece of properly submitted evidence, which was the property tax assessments.

We all know MAL is worth a lot more than $27 million but you also have to properly submit evidence too...

I guess we can only hope that justice prevails.
Do you feel someone dropped the ball here, from an oversight perspective?

Fulton County DA was obviously in communications with others in the lead up and charging of this case.

Should someone have had a closer watch on the DA entrusted with prosecuting what many perceive to be the strongest case?

I guess innocent till proven guilty doesnt exist anymore....and just remeber things you dont like arent necessarily illegal

First, the DOJ is not acting at the behest of Biden. That myth has been debunked so many times I've lost count. But I know you like that phraseology, as intentionally misleading as it is, so let's move on.

Second, what do you mean by what are they waiting on? Smith wants to try Trump before the election. Trump's team is doing everything they can to delay it until after the election -- same with the classified documents case.

I think we all know what his game plan is, and if he wins it involves pardoning himself either the day after he is sworn in, or the last day he is in office if the cases are stayed pending his presidency. He'd prefer the latter as its a little less embarrassing to him, of course, and pardoning himself is not a good look for the first week in office.

No, I predicted this result many weeks ago. I did not think they would take up the big picture issue -- there was no need to.

I'd have been very surprised if the Court had come down the other way. Concluding that its up for Congress to decide is perfectly sensible given the history of the amendments. Having the states do it piecemeal is problematic, though there is a certain sense of irony here in that the only mechanism by which the Republicans have managed to win the Presidency the last few outings is via the electoral college, which is the paragon of the role of a state in federal elections.

Its a reasonable debate. I am not persuaded by the fact that they failed or that it was short-lived. Had they shown up at the Mall and thrown some chairs around or overturned a car or two, ok, riot. But when they went into the Capitol, causing so much damage and using force to overcome security, then occupied the chamber, caused Congresspeople to scurry to save their lives, and were chanting such things as "Hang Mike Pence," to me that went well over the line from "riot" to "insurrection."

That they sucked at it doesn't change what it was.
Heads of agencies are chosen by the President. They absolutely serve that Presidents interests.

Take DOT for instance. Ol' Gay Pete only wants non heterosexual White males as new employees in air traffic control because, as we all know, what makes a person good a job isn't their mental ability its their sexual preference, sex, and racial/ethnic background. Being extremely handicapped is a huge bonus as well. The FAA is grabbing up all the minorities they can to fill the air traffic control ranks. The training academy washout rate has jumped to almost 70%.

The FAA also has a large contingent of technicians who maintain all of the equipment we use to control the airspace. All of the physical requirements were removed from those jobs to allow people with severe disabilities to apply and get selected. I ran the selection process for one of the FAA service areas when it came to hiring new employees last year. We had people interviewing for technician spots who were in wheelchairs, and one guy was deaf. I didnt select any of those. This did not really come as too much of a surprise as I view all of the union represented technicians as pretty much being borderline retarded (or Army vets) to begin with.

And if that doesn't make you not want to fly consider this: There are air traffic control facilities in operation at major airports that date back to WW2 (or older). The FAA's equipment is so old in fact that many radar systems and landing aids cannot be fixed because the replacement parts don't exist nor does the ability to manufacture them. Almost everything "new" was developed in the 50's and 60's. The FAA got like 25 billion dollars for "infrastructure". When that was divided up to the district levels we got $300,000... Painted some buildings, repaired some doors, paved a parking lot, but that ALS shelter from 1932 that could collapse at any moment and make landing during anytime that isnt a clear day near impossible? Nah, F'you.

All of this sh!t..by a political appointee serving the Presidents interests. Its politcs.

tl;dr: Don't fly.

Yep.

It’s funny how when Trump was in office it was “Trump’s DOJ”. Now that Biden is in office it’s “The DOJ”. Other Presidents were decent at it, but Obama was a master at weaponizing government agencies to serve his interests. This practice is still alive and well today.
