The Oakland A's- MLB's ACTUAL AAA team

When's the last time they have?

Thought so

Just like a Yankee, living in history. We're playing the here and now.

And, fwiw, the Athletics franchise are the third most successful franchise in MLB history in regards to World Series titles.

ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the 2012 American League West Division Champions, clad in green and gold, the OAKLAND A's!
Congrats. The A's showed a lot of heart down the stretch and the Rangers folded like a cheap tent.

Twas a great season and the only real worry on this team is whether or not Beane will pick up Drew's $10m option for 2013. Other than that, this team will be intact. Will be interesting with Drew because Jemile Weeks is probably going to want his starting 2B position back, but I don't see them giving it to him over Pennington. Weeks had a horrible season offensively, so it will be interesting how all of it plays out.

No reason this team can't be even better next year.

A's get Chris Young (CF) for Pennington and Yordy Cabrera. Good trade for them.

Heath Bell going to the Diamondbacks.

This trade should pretty much guarantee that Drew is going to sign the mutual option. I just hope Weeks can finally live up to his potential now that 2b is all his.

4-2, back atop the AL West. I can get used to having the Astros in the division.

Bill, what should happen to the A's?

As far as what? Theyve got the pitching to do great things. With Cespedes, Reddick, Crisp, Donaldson, Young and Moss, I think they have enough offense to complement the pitching. The only division that might be tougher is the NL East, but I think the AL West comes down to the A's and Halos.

Or were you talking relocate/new stadium? In that case, Oakland should get rights in the city for a new stadium, but it just isn't going to happen. Where they'll wind up is anyone's guess.

I was talking about what you said to the second part.

I mentioned this earlier, but if Sacramento loses the Kings, I'd think that'd be a prime spot.

Sacramento has expressed serious interest, but ownership really wants San Jose. I'd be fine with either move, I mean I grew up and live on the other side of the country, I just simply became a fan as a kid. Rumors of Vegas, Portland and Fremont are still out there as possibilities too.

Vegas would be a perfect spot except for that whole gambling thing.

I don't understand why Portland doesn't more pro teams. Great fanbase, good market...honestly if I was ownership, that's where I would go.

For no good reason whatsoever, I'd rather the A's not wind up in Portland. No idea why I'm against it, I just don't like the idea.

We were a strong contender when the Expos were leaving Montreal. A stadium deal was tied to the construction of a casino within city limits, which fell through. A casino came back up on the ballot in November, which got obliterated via public referendum in the county.

The only major venues within city limits have been there forever; Rose Quarter (Blazers) for like fifty years now, and Jeld-Wen Field (Timbers) for something like 120 years. Getting a new stadium to support a major pro franchise just ain't gonna happen any time soon.

But I agree, the market is definitely there. The Blazers get at or near capacity even when they suck, and the waiting list for Timbers season tickets (of which there are like 18,000) is something like seven or eight years long at this point. But they both have centrally located urban stadiums that are easily accessible by transit. Any new stadiums would be in the burbs.

Eight straight wins, sweep of the Halos and best record in the AL. Bring on Detroit to see what this team is really made of...

Without knowing the background, I would understand Selig's decision here, but the MLB corporate offices have procrastinated on the territorial rights issue with San Jose for at least three years now. Make something happen, Bud. This is ridiculous. I'd bet the farm that if this were an issue from a bigger market team, it would have been settled long, long ago.

Terrible start for the Astros. Six walks and six runs allowed so far.
