Auburn had a grueling game against Bama, very physical and they had one player tweak his ankle pretty bad at the end. Went to OT after blowing a huge lead as well. Not sure if they can put together that sort of effort Saturday or not, but they're in a must win mode for sure.

Also I don't agree with the narrative that we've had more games where the offense no-shows.

We've had only 4 games where our FG% was under 36.5%, now if you want to comment on 3PT shooting then that's fair since we've had a total of 13 games where we shot under 31.6% from deep.

Even with that we've scored 70 or more in 19 games this season. The issue though is that in every single loss we've given up over 60 points.

In games where we held the opponent to 60 or less we're 19-0 (with wins over Alabama, Kansas, & Maryland)
In games where we give up 63 or more we're 3-8. 7 of our 8 losses we scored 70 or less and gave up 63 or more, it's not like we JUST played poorly on offense, we've lost because we struggle on both sides of the court in those games.

Missouri is the only game that's an exception, we played outstanding offense that game but it was our worst defensive performance and we lost 86-85

I think this injury will make Tennessee a lot more attractive to an elite true PG transfer. Hey, come run the show for a perennial top 15 team, that's top 5 in attendance, Game Day will probably come again, play for the PG whisperer (even tho he's going to ride your ass) and now, doesn't even have a true PG on the roster. Man, the best PGs in the transfer portal "should" be beating on our door. I think we get one of the top 2 PGs in the portal, this year. You know, I can be overly optimistic, but it makes perfect sense to me. Should be able to throw some NIL money out, too
I agree with all you said, but apparently a lot of PG’s want it their own way. They don’t want to play under a guy that’s going to make them work, stay on them, and make them better. You would think we would have great PG’s knocking down our door.

I would even argue if it was a bad defensive performance. Mizzou hit everything from three, with a ton of contested shots. It was just our crazy good 3-point % defense hedging a bit more towards the norm.

They had only 7 turnovers, 52.6% from FG, 51.6% from 2PT, 53.8% from 3PT and scored 44 in the first half and then 42 in the second half.

I mean we really didn't do anything of note on defense...didn't turn them over and we had 17 fouls as well. Sure some of it was just them hitting some shots that normally don't get hit. But that's statistically the worst defensive game we've had.

52.6% = best FG against us all season (2nd best was 47.7% by LSU)
30 made FGs = most FGs against us all season (2nd best was 27 by USC & Colorado)
14 made 3pts = most 3pts made against us all season (2nd best was 10 at Vandy)
53.8% = best 3PT % against us all season (2nd best was 40% at Vandy)
7 turnovers = tied for lowest of season with at Vandy

36.5 percent isn't a good line to demark shooting percentage. That's lower than the worst/352nd ranked FG shooting percentage team in the nation. We have major offensive issues and they are fairly frequent. We are 248th in the nation in FG percentage. That's worst among the top 25 teams. Pitt at 163, and ranked 25th, is the only other team outside the top 150 that's ranked, It is what it is at this point and we've seen it plenty, scoring droughts are common and it seems like if one guy is off, everyone is off.

I think we have major 3 point shooting issues and that has driven down our FG% and is more the cause than anything else.

291st in 3PT% at 32.3% and even using that % as the line we've had 15 games shooting below it.

So I will say we're a terrible 3 point shooting team this year. I still don't think the offense as a whole has had more no-shows though.

I used 36.5% because eliminating those 4 games that were below that mark we would be sitting at 46.2% from FG for our average, which would have us sitting at 83rd in national rankings.

I'd wager if you eliminated the 4 worst shooting games of everyone else this season, we'd settle back towards 248th again though. Regardless of the cause, 3pt vs 2pt etc. We struggle to score, and we have a lot of droughts this year. If we had an average offense, we'd be legitimate NC contenders, which I think that article conveyed. When we are making shots we are basically unbeatable. But we very often don't make shots for long stretches of game time.

Big difference in struggling or having scoring droughts and "no showing" but it's subjective how one takes that term.

I think the media are overly critical of our offense because it's one of the few things that can be criticized. We've never been an offensive first team under Barnes, in conference we're 8th in FG% and 6th in FG makes per game. But for some reason the other bad offensive teams catch far less criticism than we do for it. (A&M, Mississippi State, & Auburn).

We're also 5th in conference in Offensive Rating. I wish we would shoot less 3s and drive more, two areas where we really struggle in conference is those areas. We're 8th in 3pt %, but shoot the 5th most and we're 12th in FTAs.

It is what it is, I thought Phillips would be a bit better than he has been offensively and then we've had some injury issues and Key has been far more inconsistent than I think anyone expected.

Nice. They rank us number 9, but have one paragraph focused on why they cant be bothered to watch the team they're opining on, two lines about how we're good, and then six about why we're bad, even after moving us up to nine.

Yeah, the write-up was super lazy

We aren't going to get a reasonable whistle on Saturday, are we? After Pearl's post game radio show last night and us being on the road, this is not going to be fun.

Probably not. But, then again, getting a friendly whistle on the road in college basketball almost never happens. You’ve gotta play extremely well to win on the road.
