You can follow Barnes culture and crossover from various generations of players from Schofield/Grant -> Fulky/Pons -> JJJ/Vescovi -> ZZ/Mashack. Next year was always going to be a jarring new cast but hopefully new leaders emerge to carry the torch and culture. Not sure on our insiders thoughts here, but the resident guys on the Trilly discord said the following:
“If Barnes gets around a team in the summer that’s not going to be top 15ish I fully expect him to pull a Tony Bennett/Bo Ryan”
Wonder if that idea was derived from his interview on the field of 68 podcast. He said on there, when asked when he’d hang it up, that at this point in his career he had no interest in coaching a team that was not winning ballgamesNot sure on our insiders thoughts here, but the resident guys on the Trilly discord said the following:

I’ve personally always thought that Barnes would leave with ZZ. I know a lot of people have thought the same, but just seems like the right time, along with all the rebuilding of the roster we’ll have to do this offseason.
Yup seems like a natural time given he'd be leaving the same time as one of his favorite players graduating.I’ve personally always thought that Barnes would leave with ZZ. Danny White will get the best coach in his eyes. Danny chose CKC for the Women's team and VolNation about stroked out over the chose. Now we see why he chose CKC..My papaw and I have said this as well. I definitely think he’s gone after this season. There’s just this feeling for some reason.
I was gonna put out a post the other day saying “I hope Barnes coaches another 10 years”
KC, TV, Heupel. Be curious to see who we get for men’s basketball.
I think the COVID Fulk year was like this for the most partIf that’s the case, this off-season feels like a prime position for him to retire. With Carr leaving, we’re going to have at least 9 new faces on this team if we use all of our scholarships. Boswell will only be in his 2nd year, and Estrella will have barely played any minutes in his 2 years in the program.
Going to be a massive rebuilding job next year unlike anything Barnes has faced before.
Dusty May? Not sure the Vol faithful could swallow the buyout on a ten year extension.Danny White will get the best coach in his eyes. Danny chose CKC for the Women's team and VolNation about stroked out over the chose. Now we see why he chose CKC..
Dusty May could be an option..
Dusty May is the HC at Michigan. The Wolverines bought that extension out.Dusty May? Not sure the Vol faithful could swallow the buyout on a ten year extension.
Dusty May - Men's Basketball Coach - Florida Atlantic University Athletics
Dusty May led Florida Atlantic to what is undoubtedly its greatest season in school history in the 2022-23 campaign. May guided his Owls to the Final Four whilefausports.com
Kim English gets a look, undoubtedly. Not a great season so far but they've been competitive and recruiting to Tennessee is a hell of a lot easier than recruiting to Providence in the current climate.
Why does this keep coming up? He has done nothing and we got better after he left. Please explain the obsession.Kim English gets a look, undoubtedly. Have you seen who the sport’s titans have been getting as head coaches? Timing and finances worked great for Michigan getting May, and they're obviously playing quite well this year, but let's not pretend that there are a bunch of proven A+ hires waiting in the wings.
UNC: Assistant with no head coaching experience
Duke: Assistant with no head coaching experience
Kentucky: Head coach of BYU
UConn: Head coach of URI
Kim English doesn't have a litany of Final Fours but has been a solid coach in the A10 and Big East. He's absolutely going to get a look when Barnes steps down.
