Holding runners has been an issue all year. That's cost us and will continue to do so. With Tony V and Anderson, if it could be fixed, it would have been by now. We’ll get our approach at the plate fixed quickly I’m sure…..but I didn’t see good pitching just bad at bats.
Base running errors cost us game 1 and ultimately our first series.
The fact that we can’t hold runners on base means anybody that gets on first will be a runner in scoring position.
Losing this series and forcing us to address our weaknesses might greatly improve our chances of doing something special.
And we'll get everyone's best shot. They did and it only gets harder every week. We won’t play anybody that’s not well prepared.
I think the pace of Friday nights game, really took us out of rhythm. We started pressing hard and haven’t done that but a time or two, all season. Hitters have realized that our pitchers are going to throw strikes and are swinging away. We will give up some runs but will win more battles than we will lose. Now that things have died down a bit…Obviously, no one can keep up with game day threads and still watch the game. I read enough posts to understand the complaints, concerns, etc…I’m sure someone else probably pointed it out, but my thinking going into this weekend went like this…
UK’s pitching ain’t great, their record isn’t great, they can hit though, catcher is good. My concern was, is the series starting on a Thursday while traveling a day early gonna mess with us? The good news is that will be the routine for the rest of the regular season.
Tip of the cap to UK, pitching and fielding was great and they got hits when they needed ‘em.
