The Official #18 Tennessee vs. #1 Georgia Game Thread, 3:30 PM ET, CBS

I hate losing just as much as anyone. Coach is only in year 3. We just started to win a little. If this is what we see in year 5 then a serious conversation needs to happen. Just a short time ago we would have been ecstatic to have an 8-4 season. We haft crawl before we can walk. As for me I’m gonna support this coach and this team. GBO! 🍊

I think the bigger issue is the lack of effort from our team. No one, at least no one sane, thought we would actually beat Georgia. All I really wanted to see was the game be somewhat competitive, yet it wasn't. What I would've liked to see is Nico get some reps, but he didn't, even when it was clear that the game was out of hand. I get the whole red-shirt thing, but Nico is leaving in 2 years anyways so that is irrelevant.

Also, I'm not terribly impressed with our 2024 recruiting class so far. We are behind the big 3, Georgia, Florida, and Bama. We are clearly losing the recruiting battles and who knows how the last couple of weeks will affect even our current standing.

I can't help but wonder if the team knows that Milton is the inferior QB and that is contributing to the lack of effort. Who knows. What I do know however, is that if Milton has another game like tonight and the team puts this kind of effort out onto the field, we might lose to Vandy.

It’s not that we’re not there yet. That’s obvious to any idiot. It’s that we appear to be going backwards. This team has imploded. The lack of leadership, drive, desire starts at the top and is concerning. They’ve quit.
I'll agree that the leadership from this team isn't close to last year but last year also had tremendous success early on and developed and built on that confidence.

This isn't a "magical season" but more of an "average season" so the amazing momentum and confidence and leadership isn't going to be there.

Success brings more success. The FL loss hurt us, the injuries hurt us...... it's not been "that year where we overachieved" like last year.

WHY. Cannot a program of our tradition not recruit they quality needed to win games like this.
16-18 years old HS football players are probably aware of the last 8-10 years of college football…probably our worst era so I don’t believe they considered us to really have any tradition

And what if Milton is incapable of running any offense that scores enough consistently to at least be competitive. Do you then install you 5 star qb and just see if that works better
Yes, yes, yes. The problem is Milton. Name one QB who averages 50% completion rate who ever won anything? This is why I’m concerned about Heupel. Milton should have been benched long before tonight.

At some point our coach was just okay with losing, or for some reason thought Milton was the guy to get it done today. As I said earlier I’m really not sure which is worse

Can you explain that pass into the crowd to end the half? Heupel install that?
Had Milton thrown an INT in the end zone where GA had about 6 defenders, would that have helped?

Had he thrown short of the goal and not have scored and time ran out, would that have helped?

He had no clear open man and threw it out of bounds in time for a FG.

Is 3 better than 0?

Heupel’s record after 3 years will be better than every coach since Battle with the exception of Fulmer…people need to chill. He’s our 6th coach in the last 15 years and that’s part of the reason we are where we are.

Not really. The 3 really didn’t mean a damn thing. It’s like being the mvp on your team who got their brains beat out. Who really cares

Had Milton ran to the sideline and handed the ball to Nico to takeover, that would have been best 😂

UNLESS Heupel thinks Gaston, Navy, and Nico are actually not as good or not as ready.

That may be proven wrong but on the bench is Arch Manning at TX. Beck couldn't beat out Bennett (and think about that.) Ewers sat at Ohio State before going to TX.

You're assuming Nico is ready based upon nothing. Joe may very well be the best we have.

Recall that JG sucked but Bailey and Maurer never panned out even at much lower tier schools.

That's the explanation, though. Play for SOME points rather than throw into 6 or more defenders in the end zone or throw short of the goal line and let time expire.

There wasn't a GREAT choice there but the choice for some points rather than no points before the half is obvious.

If you sign good high school players and coach them up, you wind up mostly with great college players. If you sign great high school players and can’t coach them up, you wind up mostly with good college players. There are some exceptions either way, but either good or bad, it depends on coaching
