The Official #18 Tennessee vs. East Tennessee State Game Thread, 12:00 PM ET, SEC Network

Vescovi is just not that consistently good. Still afraid to finish inside and instantly looks to pass back outside. Has missed about 25 shots today... Powell is so far being underutilized and should IMO straight up replace Vescovi at this point. Lots of potential on our team, it's going to be fun to watch how these guys gel and what we can do against all the big boys Barnes has scheduled... pretty crazy out of conference match ups if you really look... unfortunately we will take some L's on those because they are early in the season and if we catch them in the tourney I think will be a different outcome.

More to the game than just scoring, something Powell is still learning and likely why he isn’t getting more minutes yet.

Santi is the effort guy he & Fulky have a motor that’s always on.

Hope we just improve so we can bloody up our enemies in conference play. Don’t want to lose to LSU or Auburn this year

Santi threw three out of bounds/bad passes, along with tons of missed shots against ETSU... He's got experience and a high motor yes I agree... not gonna change my mind here though... you might be changing your mind in a few weeks when we play some big boys and Santi is still bricking three's and Powell is still hitting them...

We are very deep, so Barnes is probably struggling a bit to find the right fit of guys who play off each other... We will definitely look different in a few months with all these guys getting minutes under their belts and starting to gel with one another.

Love Vescovi but if he is not hitting open 3s. Powell should take his minutes.

We're not deep in the post, and that concerns me.

It hasn't been that long ago that travelling was called in an extremely strict manner in college. You're right that the college refs are more influenced by the NBA game, or more likely, directed to be less strict.
Probably a little of both. Although I would say the decision/rule makers are influenced in how they instruct the game to be called by the NBA

Powell had 1 rebound. He’s 6’6” and playing against ETSU. No other stats except points.

Santi missed a few 3s, but they weren’t bad shots. I’m just saying Barnes wants effort from his guys on both sides of the court. It’s why James & Santi are starters over Bailey & Powell.

If Powell starts playing a more complete game he’s definitely got the ability to start, not denying that. He’s a great shooter and scorer, really impressed with his ability to handle the dribble and drive as well.

Powell is like Eric Gordon for Houston the last few years. His stat line always ends up as something like 18 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 5-14 from 3, 1-1 from the ft line.

And there will be games where we’ll need Powell on the court just to score. But if he wants to start for Barnes he’s gotta play tougher on defense & rebounding.

I said he was terrible after last game. He is what he is. Good if we need a pickup. Not good if we need him to win.

I disagree, but I’m not going to try and argue it. People are welcome to like who they like.

I like how Santi plays definitely not the most talented guy on the team though.
He’s a three point guy that I could come close to staying with in the court. He drives to the basket for no reason. He should play like Humphreys did for the national championship gators back in the day. Problem is he doesn’t he drives for no reason and doesn’t hit his wide open shots.
If he hits a shot in his first two attempts give him two more. If he misses them. Pull him.
