Thoughts on Remington 870? I have a buddy who writes gun reviews that can get me the Magpul Edition for around $500.

not sure what the Magpul edition is, but you can get the 18.5 inch 870 tactical all day long for $350

From what I've gathered, it simply is loaded with a bunch of Magpul accessories on it. Not worth its retail price, but for the price he can buy it for, sounds like a good deal.

you simply can't go wrong with an 870. Not sure I would see the need for Magpul stuff on it though

The Magpul stuff isn't the biggest sale to me. I am more interested cause I know that if a year down the road I want to get something else I can sale it and come out ahead. He has some other stuff that I want to buy.

Not a bad side job to have. Gun companys send you the gun and some ammo for you to write the review and at the end you have the option to buy it at cost.

Where does he write for?

I'm always interested in finding decent reviews.

As the dept. armorer I get to test every new gun that comes out. I just call the company and tell them we are interested in their weapon and they send me on for a couple of weeks. When the Gen 4 Glocks came out, Craigs sent me one and told me to let every officer shoot it. I also get to shoot any weapon that is seized in a crime and in the armory. For nostalgia I get one of the old M-14's out about twice a year and shoot till my heart's content.

Being a history buff I couldn't pass this up. It's as close as I'll ever get to owning an actual STG44. Loved the presentation in the box, old school.

Just picked up a Varmint gun. A .17 heavy barrel Marlin. A true wally-world special. Viewed this weapon a the gun show at the Jacobs building a week or so ago for 90 bucks more.

A cool side story about the development of a .17 semi auto. I was talking to a mechanical engineer at this show who had a group of 6 machinist, all from Knoxville. Seems Ruger gave up on it because of the pressures involved with this Cal. This the recoil and metal break down seem to be a major problem. They say their close.

Hey if they get it right theirs a good living and retirement there.....:machgun:
