The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

Name one game where we lost because the defense got pushed up and down the field? Only one I can think of is the Houston game. Again defense was the least of the team’s worries.

LA Rams loss was lost due to our defense not being clutch and 49ers drove right down the field to win. Pittsburgh and Houston were blowouts.

Throw in that Mariota had 5 comeback wins this year, our defense was a night and day squad. I gladly welcome Vrabel and a new defensive staff.

Ok you are clueless. We shall see if our Swiss cheese secondary is much better next year if we have the same players since Lebau is gone now. Hope you are right though but probably not.

I agree with you. CDL wasn't the issue. I thought he over achieved given an overall lack of defensive talent

Yea anybody watching the Titans this year would say the defense was far from the problem and was the big reason we stayed in a lot of games due to the offense struggling.

Of course it would have. What was Arizona's offense based on, a pass heavy offense that slung the ball all over the place.

At the same time, what was Tennessee offense built on? A lot of under center, run heavy, ground and pound offense.

Now which one is set up best for a QB as a rookie to ease into? The only reason Vince Young had any success in Tennessee was because of this legs because he sure as hell couldn't pass. There's a reason why someone like Kerry Collins was able to be the QB of a 13 win team here. So yes, Leinart would have been set up to succeed here better than he was in Arizona because the QB position here didn't have to throw 300 yards and 4 touchdowns a game like Arizona had too.

The football acumen of some people on here is crazy.

Rofl...so again...."dramatically different" to you = "he would have been set up better to succeed".

Keep dancing there D4H lite.

It was both. There were games where the D was exposed. I think it is a personnel issue and not a scheme/coaching issue, though. We had no real pass rush and a weak secondary that is better at run support than coverage.

Take a look at the season defense totals for this year. The stats show the run defense did its job for sure. Problem is the losses have one glaring stat: the pass defense.

San Francisco.

I agree that this defense did a decent job since they were bailing out the offense a bunch. That said there was room for improvement.

Byard and Adoree are good pieces. I will say that Cyprien really came on strong at the end of the season. Joyner, Malcom Butler, and Bashaud Breeland will be free agents.

Another gettable player would likely be Dontari Poe.

While Vrabel won't have the rebuild an entire unit, we need a splash free agent and good coaching. I'm looking forward to the Vrabel hire and a free agency haul.

Glad to know you think that one of the top rushing offenses in the league is not an asset for a young QB's development yet throwing a young QB in a pass happy offense would be just A-OK for a qb's development.

Your acumen is spectacular.

This! I know Orakpo was also decent, but our speed on the edge from Morgan/Orakpo was vanilla.

We have 2 average guys at the most important position on defense. That mixed with 2 of our 3 linemen being average (everyone but Casey) is a bad combination

Logan Ryan is good too. “Splash” (expensive) free agents don’t usually work out

If your “football acumen” is so much better than everyone else’s, it should be obvious without you repeatedly saying so.

Defense was not the team’s problem this year.

Our pass defense was atrocious this year. While it’s debatable whether that was a personnel problem or not, it’s incorrect to suggest the team’s defensive play wasn’t a problem this year as well.

I said it was the not the team’s major issue. The defense played well enough to win most games. The offense was atrocious especially in December.

Your acumen is spectacular.

And your vocabulary is obviously limited.

Also, kudos for continuing to miss the point.

Damn, 1 day on the job and Vrabel already screwing up with the Shield:

“The NFL has the greatest farm system in the world,” Vrabel said at his introductory press conference, to a question about whether he’d use college concepts. “We pay our farm system coaches $10 million to develop players. Nick Saban is our farm system. Urban Meyer is our farm system. So, those are the types of players they’re developing. Those are the types of players that are playing in high school. That’s where the game is at.”

Mike Vrabel: NCAA is '''greatest farm system in the world'''

I can't be bothered to go back and look at the season and how well we did on third down defense, but off the top my head we left two victories on the field SF and LA. We won the game but Tom Savage looked lights out against the defense.

Dick Lebaue (sp) was great but the game has passed him by, and if you're paying attention the 4-3 is cycling back around, that and the 4-2-5.

And if you're wondering why I'm talking about the defense, I got my posts set to 50 a page and that was the first subject I saw.
