The Officiating Thread - UGA

That’s true. I’d like to think our news outlets are too preoccupied with manipulating politics to care about our sports.

But I agree that I would expect the Washington Post or some other news agency to want to get their hands on a story like that. Maybe it’s too risky to touch with so many rabid fans such as ourselves. If Jeff Bezos’s Washington Post took down college football, you could believe that Amazon would lose billions in sales. Nobody in the establishment wants to be the tyrant who removed the circus while inflation and national debt are the hot topic in politics.
The bread and butter of all news is tearing stuff down, not building stuff up. They'd love to take down college football as rigged. Nothing sells like scandal.

Bezos only owns the WP as a hobby, at best. Rich guys make stupid impulsive purchases too and that's my thought about Bezos and the WP.

I'll be curious how MLB does with robo-umps making better balls and strikes calls than humans. Robo-linemen made tennis less contentious. There's not a good way for sports like football, basketball, and soccer to automate so we're likely stuck with humans there. I'd just like to see the refs employed full-time so the quality increases.

I will complain about bad calls sometimes but have never thought the officials cost Tennessee a football game ................................................. until now.

Let's count 'em up >
# 2 Ga fumbles called back (obvious fumbles that would have ended scoring drives).
# several no-calls on Ga line holding our D-line (I saw a couple of strangleholds)
# clear pass interference on Ga DB on a sideline route by our receiver
# flagrant personal foul forearm shiver thrown by Ga receiver at our defender after the whistle (right in front of the linesman)
# the absolute kill-shot to our defense, the phantom facemask penalty (Ga would have been 3d & 20 on a crucial drive).
# clear-as-day motion penalty on Ga slot receiver right in front of the whole world (again could have stopped a scoring drive).
# waving off Tenn's early roughing the punter flag was the correct call for all the Ga fans making equivalency claims (Tenn punt rusher clearly pushed into Ga's kicker and barely brushed against the guy).

I'm sure I'm leaving a couple more out. Anyone else ?

Also, what ability does the head coach being screwed have to demand a play review ?

Get over it. We didn't take care of business. It's on us. Blaming refs is lame.
Refs deserve the blame in most games that count. Nobody going to argue much with UTEP. I 100% agree with the OP Vol-Smoothie on this one. Until they stop the game and get the call right, especially on your home field, the game is not a game but a bought and paid for demolition derby. Pros are awful and college is right there with them. Easy fix but, someone is wanting to fix the games. Too much money in sports.

Our OL held their DL on almost every play. Stop whining about the refs. We got dominated. The refs make bad calls EVERY SINGLE GAME. The constant whining about officiating makes this fan base look dumb.
I hear it from fans of all colors all the time...if you want to close your eyes and live in denial...go right ahead.

I see bad officiating every single Saturday in every single game. Like you said, every fan base does it. Bad officiating is rampant in college and in the NFL. Hence why complaining about it and using it as an excuse is dumb.

We got out played and out coached. Either admit that or keep whining with your tin foil hat on.

No doubt not blaming loss on refs, but officiating needs to be cleaned up. It is a across the board problem, I think fans in general agree. It needs to be a paid position just like the pro’s. Especially for the power 4, they have the money to do it. GBO

I thought maybe it had something to do with not scoring a point in the second half while they outs score us 31-7 after the first. Glad you could tell me the real reason. I feel so dumb.

Do you find yourself cheering for the Nazis in Schindler’s List?

“Stop your whining! It’s not a conspiracy! You just got your butts whipped!!”

That doesn't make it ok. If they see it they should call it. Even on us. Every time. I'm 100% ok with that, but they never call it on other teams. Our D was getting rear naked choked and blocked in the back all night. Just one example I happen to have at my fingertips at the moment.

The officiating sucked. I’m not going to say it cost us the game bc I feel like Georgia still was winning in the trenches. I will say that game could’ve been close and should’ve come down to the last possession and been a classic game. All that was crapped on by the officiating. You’ve got a very slim chance of winning in Athens; you’ve got no chance with those officials.

Piss off.

We didn’t play good enough to win but to act like officiating has no effect during games is pure BS.
This is what I can’t understand. Fans like him dismissing the refs having an impact. It’s almost like you should go into Athens out coach Kirby’s more talented team with the refs tying one hand behind your back.

“Refs deserve the blame in most games that count”…I don’t know which is dumber, thinking that games are fixed, or remaining a fan despite that belief

.Too much betting money. Now you have to put out an injury list. That is ONLY for the betting spread..With money flowing, you get refs hands out.
You find it problematic to your theory that refs regularly get paid to fix games that despite hundreds (thousands?) of people necessarily being involved in these schemes that no credible evidence of such conspiracies has been uncovered?

That Georgia home winning streak will live on until Sankey gives the order for it to stop
