The bread and butter of all news is tearing stuff down, not building stuff up. They'd love to take down college football as rigged. Nothing sells like scandal. That’s true. I’d like to think our news outlets are too preoccupied with manipulating politics to care about our sports.
But I agree that I would expect the Washington Post or some other news agency to want to get their hands on a story like that. Maybe it’s too risky to touch with so many rabid fans such as ourselves. If Jeff Bezos’s Washington Post took down college football, you could believe that Amazon would lose billions in sales. Nobody in the establishment wants to be the tyrant who removed the circus while inflation and national debt are the hot topic in politics.
Bezos only owns the WP as a hobby, at best. Rich guys make stupid impulsive purchases too and that's my thought about Bezos and the WP.
I'll be curious how MLB does with robo-umps making better balls and strikes calls than humans. Robo-linemen made tennis less contentious. There's not a good way for sports like football, basketball, and soccer to automate so we're likely stuck with humans there. I'd just like to see the refs employed full-time so the quality increases.
