The reason Bruce Pearl will not get fired. ...

these responses just show the average age of the posters here,,,im just waiting on the text of his firing,,brought it on himself,,damn shame too!

I found that out last night. I believe most are 17-23 and have enough real world experience to prevent those that have been around a little longer from having an opinion. If their argument starts to faulter, the namecalling begins.

He's staying, and I'm glad of it! If you don't like it. Go cheer for another team.

Please go cheer for another team with another coach. Or stop acting like a UT fan on our site and expose yourselves. Most of this is probably coming from Bill King. He secretely has 6 fake accounts to Volnation and spends every hour of the day bashing us and Pearl. Go..... yourself.

You want me to expose myself?

I think we're kidding ourselves to think that if Pearl wasn't already caught, he would have continued lying.

It's human nature to keep lying and try to cover it up. Most people don't voluntarily come clean about anything unless caught. It's just the way we're wired.

Don't throw me in that group.

you've never lied? never told another lie to cover it up?

I feel honored to be in the presence of a saint :p

I have my faults. But anyone that knows me will readily admit that a compulsive liar I'm not.

I would venture to say not to the extent that his employer had to pay a quarter of a million dollars in legal fees in order to keep the employer from serious sanctions from it's governing body.

One of the vaguely amazing things about this whole situation is how many VN posters just cheerfully admit that they lie all the time in their own lives, that they don't think it's a particularly big deal, and that they assume everybody else does too. That just blows me away. What the hell kind of people do we have in Tennessee?

he was caught when the pictures came out. It was his house and evidently a pic of his asst coach with the wife Bruce introduced him to. That's the part I just truly don't understand

I think you've hit on some of the stratification on this particular issue. Those who view it as morally deficient tend to hate what it has made UT hoops / athletics appear to be. Those who view lies as simply part and parcel to the human condition and tell them as readily as they do the truth, well, they don't really see an issue.

If your wife wants to know what you think of her new dress do you tell her what your thinking or just say that
it is a nice dress. When your mom wants to know what you think of her perm do you say that you really never noticed or do you say it looks nice.

Lying is wrong i dont think he was saying that it isnt. I think he was saying that most people have bones in their closet that they would lie about.

For me, it's not so much that they say, 'everybody lies.' It's not like everyone else is perfect, and people do lie, but it doesn't mean all lies are the same. Pearl is making Tennessee look bad right now, period.

If my wife wants to know what I think of the new dress, I tell her what I think of the new dress. It's one of the reasons she asks my opinion all the time. If my mom wants to know what I think of her crappy new haircut, I equivocate in such a way as to spare her feelings as much as possible while still letting her know that I don't like it. Why would I lie to the people whom I care about the most?

Noone has said that they lie all the time... My point was that we all have made mistakes, we have all lied at some point.. it's human nature. None of us are saints. So why pass judgement on Bruce because of a mistake he made? Until someone proves to me that he is a pathological liar and cheater than i will continue to support him. People saying he is a cheater bc he lied about a bbq is simply ridiculous imo.

exactly. Im not saying that lying is ok.. I didnt say everyone is a pathological liar. I simply said that we ALL have made mistakes.. and we ALL have lied at some point in our lives - so to act like we are all Saints and that Bruce should be burned at the stake is crazy to me. I for one am glad that i got a second chance to make right for some of the stupid things i've done in life.

What's really ridiculous is to pretend that Pearl's action doesn't amount to anything. If sending the basketball program down the drain and creating serious damage to the image of the program and university isn't anything, you are absolutely correct.

You're wasting your time trying to use logic with some of these people.

What's ridiculous is that noone is saying Pearl hasn't hurt the image of TN basketball. I've seen noone post anything like that. Saying the basketball program is being sent down the drain... that's pushing it. Getting ready to go to our 6th ncaa tourney in a row... isn't exactly "sending the program down the drain".

Did Calipari's NCAA issues at Memphis or Kentucky damage the image of those programs? sure.. when it was in the news everyday just like Pearl is now. Did those programs go down the drain?? Not quite. When the committee issues a punishment.. and we move on. .. and continue to win... Noone will care.
