huge if legit
Yes, Arabian countries are attempting to diversify their economies, but I don't agree with this at all. Saudis can still control oil prices more than anyone. Just scale back production 25% and watch prices soar.
maybe in the short term but what if the US suddenly decided to take advantage of all the resources available within its borders? I've seen estimates that we could essentially be energy independent in 5-7 years. You don't think that concerns SA?
what happens to the oil producing countries when the US doesn't need them anymore?

Easy answer, Putin is thinking if Obozo can get a Nobel Peace prize, then I can. Plus Putin is making Obozo look like the clown he is.
Maybe if you want to pay $8+ gallon for gasoline. Otherwise, it's not happening.
Even with declining demand and the "energy boom," we're still importing more than half our oil.
I wonder why???
You miss the fact we export a great deal of oil ourselves. We also import a great deal of refined product due to our woeful lack of refining capability.
It's a major PR win for Putin domestically. Today the headlines in the Russian version of Pravda include "Russia Has Saved the World". The article goes on to say that Russia is the real peacemaker in international affairs.
Other countries can produce oil much more cheaply than we can?
Huh? We've been closing refineries because there's not enough demand.
COLUMN-Global overcapacity to squeeze oil refining margins: Campbell | Reuters
The U.S. became a net exporter of petroleum products just two years ago and is now the largest exporter in the world.
Whatever. You said America was importing refined product due to capacity limitations, when the opposite is true.

We are importing gasoline, how do you get gas from crude?
According to the link above, they may be importing it in some areas because it's cheaper than shipping from Gulf refineries.
This also goes to point out that the whole energy independence talk is somewhat misleading. Oil is a global commodity, and American producers are going to sell it to the highest bidder. Building a pipeline just makes it easier for them to export gasoline abroad rather than saving American motorists money.
