I think Jocketty actually believes this team can still win the division. I disagree, but I'm sure that's his thinking.
I can understand not making any big moves this deadline. There weren't any great fits. I can not understand not moving Hernandez though. The thought of that baffles me.
jocketty said that the astros were asking for a lot more from us on the Bourn and pence deals since we are in the same division.I would have thought that he was the main focus if a deal was to get made. I like Ramon and when healthy I like him over Hannigan, but I figured they would have tried to get something in return while he is A.) Healthy and B.) While he is playing very well.
But out of all of the deals that were made I thought Bourne would have been very good for this club. It still is hard to watch all of the ther clubs in the league stack up while we sat on our hands again.
I'll go ahead and say it. If Arroyo loses to the Astros, time to stick him in long relief and recall Travis Wood or put LeCure in the rotation.Pitching probables against the Stros
Arroyo v Norris
Bailey v Rodriguez
Willis v Lyles
Pitching probables against the Cubs
Leake v TBD (probably Dempster)
Cueto v TBD (probably Zambrano)
TBD (Arroyo probably) v TBD (probably Wells)
Hard to believe but interesting.A reader tipped me a while back that he has a friend in baseball who told him the Reds were talking to the Blue Jays about a trade Jose Bautista-for-Joey Votto trade. The Reds would have had to kick in a prospect as well.
I get tips like that from time to time. I usually dismiss them. But the fact that the Blue Jays sent a scout to Dayton to specifically watch Daniel Corcino, probably the Reds best pitching prospect, tells me they were talking trade with the Reds.
