The Runner's thread

Samus likes the outdoors probably more than I do. I don't camp or hike unless it's for a NASCAR race, and even then I would prefer to rent an RV.

In terms of running, she is hit or miss. Sometimes she will run for miles, but other times she will slow down and sort of drag. I don't think it's a lack of energy or conditioning either as if a squirrel pops out she finds that speed. She also doesn't do fast pace for long. That 8:20 mile we ran was then followed by two 10 minute miles. Just to make things worse, when I put her inside after she seems to have quit on the run, she wants to act all sad that I have left her when I go back out to finish.

What sort of harness/collar/leash do you use?

I use the gentle leader, attached to a 6.5' full reflective leash. I like the gentle leader as it greatly reduces the amount of pulling she did with a chest sort of harness.

I use the Gentle Leader and a fixed leash, as well. She gets in the groove and does well, unless she sees another dog. We are working on the barking by holding tension.

Music never worked for me

Fueling your body(the right way) and hydration play a key role in physical activity. It takes more than "plenty of water" 40 minutes before a run to be fully hydrated.

Thanks for all the advice folks. Today was back to business as usual. I upped my fluid intake throughout the day. Typically I do not really drink much water before lunch, I changed that. I also went out in my new Sauconys:

I used Runner's World, shoe finder tool to fit me for a pair to work with my underpronation and midfoot strike. They felt really nice out there.

I was able to get the 5k @ 23:27 which is right under my PR. Even more encouraging was that after a slow start on the more difficult first half of the run, I was able to pick up the pace:

1. 7:46
2. 7:33
3. 7:25

Typically that would be the reverse for me. I feel like that means there is still some speed in hand, and I have a lot more room to improve.

Glad I got this run in before Snowpocalypse hits. I have no idea when my next run will be if we get hit hard.

I have to listen to music while I run. It's a motivator for me. If I am running on a road that has a lot of cars I will turn it down so I can hear the traffic better.

Another great running day. Sliced a solid 8 seconds off my 5k.

Then I went out with the dog and ran another 5k in 31:43. I was actually holding her up on that run.

I hadn't run in over a week because of the weather. Ran 2.25 today and almost had cardiac arrest

3 miles around the track, hitting the bleachers each time. Came out to 9 laps. Each set up the bleachers was 40 steps, with 3 sets per lap. 1080 stairs total. Legs are jelly.

The mapmyrun detailed route is kinda cool IMO. I ran virtually the same line every time, but this is what the GPS got:

LOVE my new Pure Cadences, but I always like to mix it up with shoes. Several tests actually claim it helps cut down on injuries. So I bought these:

Still absolutely beasting out, just shaved more off my PB. Either there is something in the water here, or I just wasn't trying before. I honestly don't understand where this pace has come from...
