The Runner's thread

6.5 miles in 57:14. The trails here are still nasty. Slushy, muddy, shady parts still have snow. Felt amazing. The Newtons are great. They have these channels in the midfoot to help promote the midfoot strike. This time a year ago, I was all over a midfoot strike. Now I'm starting to wonder, because the last mile and a half or so I could really feel it working my achilles and calves.

I was planning on going 3 miles. Got out to 1.5 miles and decided to go to the 4.5 turn around point (AKA, a General's house). Got there and decided I wanted to see the golf course, so I ran to the Iron Mike statue. Did a little loop around him and back. I just felt like going and going! I love that feeling!

2.5 miles. Longest since back running. My 5k is next Saturday. Gotta get in a few good 3 mile runs this week

Wish I knew about this sooner. $35 is too much for me for a 5k

True but it includes ticket admission and a kickass shirt.

Speaking of which, do any of you actually keep all of your shirts or just really special events like marathons and halves?

Putting in work.

What exactly is hill training? Is it just running on a lot of hills?

Find a hill that that takes you 30-45 seconds to run.
Warm up for 5-10 minutes, run up, jog down, repeat 4-6x, cool down for 5-10 minutes
Next week increases the reps by two.
When you get to 8-10 reps increase the time by 15-30 seconds and start again with 4-6 reps.
Try to run the last rep with same speed as first rep. Only do this workout once/week. If you feel like you're going to puke you're doing it right.

Touche. I'll call it a push...tie goes to the speedster :p

Honestly, I've never had a "big" dog before Mazzy (although she isn't exactly huge). I really enjoy spending time outdoors with her, and she has become a real part of our family. We look forward to camping with her this Spring, and I'd like to get out for some trail runs (which would be a new thing for me). I know she would eat it up -- no pun intended.

Glad you share in the love of our canine companions.

Get a bird dog whistle. Works great when they are off leash in the woods and decide that they can chase down a 6 point buck.

I feel like I am in a bit of a rut. My 5k times have slowed down markedly since those PR's I ran last month. I don't know what happened. I've changed up my route a bit and it's more difficult, but my tank feels empty right after the first mile. Maybe I run better later on in the day than these noon runs. I dunno, it's not so much frustrating as perplexing.

How long has it been since you took a rest week?

Guys I'm getting really frustrated. Ran 2.75 today but had to stop twice for about a minute each. It's so hard getting back into running shape

You just got to take small steps. Rome wasn't built in a day. Might want to slow your pace too.
