The Runner's thread

Got in about 2.2 in 18:21 (give or take a few seconds, had to self time). Not sure what it is about being outside but I'm absolutely flying now.

What shoes are you guys using? I'm overwhelmed by the amount of shoes on the market. I'm currently using Asics Gel-Conteno, but they haven't held up very well. The insoles came out almost right away and I can't get them to stay in place now.

I've always had good luck with New Balance, but I'm shopping around. Have been interested in Brooks, too, since one of their corporate execs actually called from Seattle and bought sruff from me yesterday at my bike shop in Illinois. I can also order Pearl Izumi through my shop, and their neon colors give me a stiffy.

Check out this tool. It helped me find a great pair of Sauconys.

There are a lot of high quality running shoes but it ultimately comes down to the individual runner. Your gait, arch type, any pronation, etc.

I went to Fit2Run and completed the quick gait analysis. You run a bit on a treadmill and they film your gait. That combined with any specifics with your feet (e.g. high arches) helps to significantly narrow down options.

I wound up getting Saucony Cortanas and that's all I run. I can tell you it made a significant difference from buying running shoes on my own.

Neat. My friend works at a running shoe store across town so I'm going to visit him on Thursday. He's a cross country coach at a local university, too. I'm sure he'll steer me in the right direction.

This is best advice you can get. Everyone is different on the way their feet are shaped and what feels good to them. It ulimately comes down to what feels good on your feet while you are running. You have remember that your shoes have to feel good from the start. Because if they don't feel good the first mile.. they are really going to hurt the last mile.

Prefect evening. Sunset run with a nearly full moon hanging over the trail. Brisk 38° made the temp just right. 20.5 total for the month.

Bought a pair of Brooks Ghost 6 shoes today. Went to see my friend at a running store and he fit me up pretty well. I also tried on Asics, Saucony, and New Balance. The Brooks were the best fit, each of the other had some odd fitment issues. The New Balance were too tight in the arch area, the Saucony were too tight in the toe box, and the Asics were loose in the heel.

They're orange, of course.

3.9mi @ 10:39/mi avg pace. I was 8:58, 11:18, 11:09, 10:54. I stepped on a chunk of ice and rolled my ankle around 2.5mi in and thought I'd broken it, but continued on. There was an audible pop... scared the crap out of me.

New shoes are friggin awesome.

2.5 in about 19 this time (had to stop and chat for a few seconds with the neighbors so its not exact). Just wish it were about 5 degrees warmer.

Hope your ankle is ok, I had a severe ankle sprain almost exactly 1 year ago (basketball) and still have issues with limited mobility in that ankle.

5.15 in 49:06.

This is a longer run for me but the pace was off from where I have been. I have had a respiratory thing going on this week (not sure if it is cold or allergies) and that made it tough to keep my breathing right at times.

Thanks. It seems to be okay, if not just a little sore. I actually had more pain in the opposite ankle today. I have a bike race on Sunday, so hopefully I'm in good working condition and get over this cold by then.

3.5 more last night. 20 total.

Challenged the wife. every mile she walks I gotta run 4. Afraid I might lose

There were 4,500 runners in the First Watch Sarasota half and relay this morning; largest event I've participated in so far. Partner and I did the relay and finished 3rd among male teams @ 1:39:51. Beautiful morning and route along the water.

ETA - the first place female relay team name was Vols Without Balls. LOL.

Completed the Preds 5k in 27:54 which was my goal. I ranked in the top 10 within my group so pretty pleased. There was a hill right out of the gate which really killed my adrenaline but I just kept an even pace (9 min) and it was mostly down hill after that. Would recommend.

That hill was a *****. It was also embarrassing the arena was filled with Blues fans.

Sore from cycling yesterday and hungry so running up a mountain was not a good idea. Run turned into a hike then ran down. 3.5 miles

Total - 23.5
