The Runner's thread

3.6 tonight. 9:10 pace. Was the first one back. Copious amounts of alcohol consumed. Will consider the 5k instead of 10k.

Walking this morning was a bit difficult. I don't think my 240lb body likes what I'm doing, but it feels so good when I do it.

You are probably going to hurt for a while but I would recommend icing your shins before and after your runs to help with shins splints.

70.8 for March. Unless I do something amazing next week, I doubt I will reach 100. I also gotta get my sleep back on point or something. My stamina isn't where I want it to be. I may need to refocus on my hydration.

It's weird, but I haven't actually gotten shin splints yet. The bottoms of my feet hurt the most.

That's good but if you continue to run you are probably going to get shin splints at some point. If you are running on trails more if might take you longer to get them than if you are running more on the road. Did your feet start to hurt after you changed shoes or did they hurt before that?

Before. I did get shin splints really bad before changing shoes. I think it's a case of my body just getting used to the motions. I ride bikes a lot and have the endurance to keep running, but my body just isn't used to striking the ground.

Are your feet hurting or sore?

If they are sore try taking a tennis ball and rolling it along the bottom of your foot back and forth. Or I have heard people using a frozen water bottle but I have never tried that.

If you can make it through the adjustment period I think you will enjoy running. I want to get into biking but just haven't saved the money yet to purchase a bike.

They are fine today. I should grab the tennis ball from underneath my porch that's been there for a couple years now and use that. I used to have a lot of arch pain before I even started running.

Put in some hard work today. 10.64miles for the day.

That puts me at 81.4 miles for March. That makes my chances for the month a real possibility.

Good work. I think I can run 10mi, but it would take me a whole week to recover...

Well it wasn't one continuous run. I did a mile walking with Samus. Then I did 4.57 one way on the greenway, not my best stuff that pass, had to walk too much. I then finished the day with a 5 mile go which was nonstop at an 8:24 pace.

We will see how I feel tomorrow. But if my math is correct I only need to run 2.11 a day to get 100.

Got home and saw Samus looking longingly outside, so we went out for 2.51 miles. 83.9 for the month.

If you're that worried about your stamina and energy, get some days off. Two in a row and then just get some 4-6 milers to make up for the days off. As for sleeping, runners need A LOT of sleep for proper rest, so that is something to look at. I've had trouble with that aspect. Went three days in a row with runs and my legs are barking something fierce. Probably didn't help that I walked 9 holes of golf on my "off" day. Lost track of my total miles towards 100, but I know I'm not close enough to make it.

I have had a lot going on this month and I have played more basketball than usual. 61 miles so far. Doesn't look good, but I am going to try and pick it up some.

Thanks for sharing this bill. After reading this am I starting to think my runs where my pace is sub 8 would be considered a tempo run because I don't think I would be able to talk in broken words during those runs but then again I'm not much of a talker when I run.

Had a buddy go through CrossFit certification and he was taught that during your regular pace you should be able to say 3-5 word statements with ease during your runs. Anything above that is running above your average pace. Also taught me the importance of shorter easy steps instead of trying to stride it out. Trying to lengthen your steps wears you out quicker and ruins your momentum because you lose the midfoot strike.
