The Runner's thread

6.2 miles of hills. Really trying to get a better feel for using the downhill momentum to help push me up the hills. 52 and some change for the time.

Just rhe hash runs twice a week. The rest are not. These social events are what got me running. Before I thought running was dumb.

I honestly don't think I could drink and run. I like running and I like beer but I don't think I would like the two combined.

There's definitely asweet spot for me. Last night I reached it quite early. Last Thursday I hit it perfectly to the point that I was running quickly and smartly and finished first. On Saturday, I didn't drink much at all and felt pretty good, but ran kinda slowly.

If I really want to punish myself... I'll go for a run hung over. That hasn't happend but maybe two or three times but it's a terrible run and usually no longer than two or three miles.

:lolabove: I think that's what I would do. I think I would just want to lay down where ever I was running and sleep it off.

It was terrible. The next most terrible thing to do IMO is run right after eating. I prefer running on an empty stomach even before a race.

Had 3 pieces of pizza right before the run, too. Burped it up. Lesson has been learned.

I did want to sit down at one point, but I skipped drinking at one stop and felt a lot better.

Keep in mind, these are social events. We dress up, drink, sing silly songs, earn nicknames, and drink. Most are ultra runners from the area that compete in some ridiculous events like Leadville 100 and Relay Iowa. The rest of us are casuals, and there are even some that come just to drink and dress up and hate running but do it for the the fun.

Will do. I need to run today so I shall see how this goes. Still a little sore.

Don't know if it will work for you, but what usually worked for me was to walk off the shinsplints. Just one foot in front of the other. Sometimes I was almost down to a shuffle, but after a few minutes I could start at least jogging again without pain. Couple of times I had to take some time off, though. Good luck with it, shinsplints can be tough.
