The Runner's thread

Don't know if it will work for you, but what usually worked for me was to walk off the shinsplints. Just one foot in front of the other. Sometimes I was almost down to a shuffle, but after a few minutes I could start at least jogging again without pain. Couple of times I had to take some time off, though. Good luck with it, shinsplints can be tough.

Thanks. I went for a light run yesterday - maybe 1.5 miles - and today the shins are better. I just took it easy. I think my last run was probably too aggressive.

Unfortunately last night my neck started aching like crazy. I don't know if I did it running or from stretching my neck too far after cooling down but now I can't turn it without it hurting like hell. I have been told previously by a massage therapist that I have something wrong with my c4 vertebrae (?) and I am pretty sure it is the same area. Hasn't acted up until now. Ive had a heating pad on it all afternoon but I'm kind of worried about running Sunday now.

I usually don't run any further than a 5k except for when I run the Peachtree Road Race. Never had any shin splint problems. I figured that's bc I don't run long distances. Anyone experience shin splints with short runs?

Mine began less than a mile into my run.

Hmm I just always thought you got them running long distances bc I've never experienced them. Doesn't seem fun though.

It can be a combination of a lot of things. Lots of longer distances, poor form, shoes that are worn out, shoes that are wrong for your feet.

Completed Knoxville 5K in roughly 27:17. Don't have official times posted yet. It was cold and too damn early but it was well worth it when I got to run down the hallow ground that is SWF.

I am looking to do the Nashville half in November. I have a lot of work to do.

Great work!

I forgot all about the race, but was shocked to see my neighbors returning from the race by 9am!

I meant to run it, but decided not to take the trip. I have the half in April to train for.

Haven't posted in this thread in a while, but ran the Knoxville half today. Finished in 1:49

Next race will be the Nashville half at the end of April.

Thanks!

My official time was 27:13. My last 5k was 27:58 so I have almost improved by one minute. I should start waking up early on Sundays because I felt like I had more of my day left. Probably not happening lol.

I've started to run in the mornings due to work. I hate it. I need to rethink my hydration and nutrition.
