The Runner's thread

First time I've noticed this thread. I used to be a runner when i was in my high school's JROTC program. The most I've ran is a half marathon. Ever since the half marathon however, I've been quite lazy and haven't been running.

I need to get back in shape and start running again. Anyone who lives in Knoxville know a good running trail and is there any upcoming races?

I had the same problem after a half. It was a huge mistake on my part. Just terrible.

I like running Melton Hill in Knoxville. There's a ton of trails. Knoxville has a decent greenway system. Check ktc.org for upcoming races. The next one I plan on doing in the area is the Pigeon Forge Midnight 8k.

That sounds terrible. What did you buy?

A pair of Brooks. Used them a few times and now the outer part of my lower left leg has a constant throb that gets worse when I beat weight on it. Guess I'll try to let it heal and just ride a bike in the meantime.

I have been running with Brooks(Glycerin 10s). I love them. I'm going to try to find another pair of these since they should be cheaper since newer ones are out. I'm def going to go back with Brooks. I may try the Beasts. I'm more for comfort/support than speed/lighter shoes. Just not sure I want to fork out over 140 a pair if I like the ones I have and can get them for a lot less.

I'm going to try a pair of Adrenalines next.

These are the shoes that I have. I have gone through two pair. I really like the way they feel but I feel like they seem to wear out pretty quick.

I can understand that. I wear the Ghost 6 right now, but there's not enough support for me. I wish there was an orange color way like my Ghosts.

Thanks. It's probably too late for me to do that race since I need some time to get in shape.

Edit: I think I'm going to do the half marathon in Farragut on November 1st.

My Asics Kayanos are great. I wore a Nimbus for a couple years, but I love the additional support of the Kayank and they are getting lighter.

Anyone have a trail shoe they suggest like the Adrenalines or Ghosts? I think the majority of the races and runs I'm going to do are trail oriented. Running on the road gets kinda boring.

I'd look into Brooks, Hoka, or Soloman for trail shoes.

I loved my Mizuno trail shoes. Right now I have a pair of Newtons and they work great anywhere. There's a picture of the several pages back

2 miles last night at a 9:27 pace. I am easing back into it after I took a week off from the Fireball.

From no running to a 5k in less than 3 weeks was not a good idea.

I didn't really do much running before my first 5k. What kind of shape were you in before you started running?

I ran about 3 races last year from July through September and was running just about every other day for more than 3 months.

I am active, but I wasn't in running shape before the Fireball. I had not done any running since last October.

5.01 miles this morning. The cooler temps really helped. 64deg when I passed by the bank on the way to work at 6:40. I did have one heck of a head wind for a half mile stretch west down the access road. Taking tomorrow off from running because I have to be at work by 5:30. Hopefully the cooler temps last through Friday.
