The Runner's thread

Most people should change their stride regardless of the shoe they wear.

The stride of a traditional running shoe and Five Fingers are different, is my point. People don't understand this, hurt themselves, and pitch a fit.

3.13 at an 8:45 pace. Felt good afterwards. Could have kept going if I didn't have to get ready for work.

I have a shorter stride since I've started back running. I felt like I pounded me feet more with a longer stride. I'm sure if I start trying to speed up the pace I'll have to lengthen it back out a little.

Went to the local Fleet Feet to ask about shoes for beach rrunning. Tried on a few pairs including the Mizuno Sayanora 2 and fell in love with them. Going to stay with the Five Fingers for the beach, but I will be running in the Sayanoras soon.

All that to say I did buy the Garmin Forerunner 15. A big fan of it so far. Easy to read, simple and lightweight.

3.2 tonight with 7:52 average pace. 350 miles down for the year only 150 left to go to reach my goal of 500 for the year. I should be able to knock that out of the park.

4.4 last night. Unknown pace as I was just testing my calves. Felt good, so I am taking that as a positive.

2 miles of sprints tonight (my version anyway).

I need to start utilizing the high school track across the street from me for some workouts.

My mom signed me up for a military-themed 5k race tomorrow night, not knowing that I'm running a half marathon on Saturday. This should be fun...

a 5k 2 days before a half is no biggie. Most programs have you running a couple miles the day or 2 before a race anyway

I figured it's not too big of a deal, but I still have a small foot problem that now only pops up when I run on pavement. I probably won't push my pace, because I have no idea what the course looks like.

4 mile track run at 7:49 pace. Track runs are usually faster for some reason. It also reminded me how much I hate running on a track.

28:14 5k. Some hills. 17 sec off of my PR. Wore my crappy shoes because I thought it would rain... Might have PR'd in my good shoes. Oh well.

Wife and I ran a 5K this morning. I ran one last weekend too, but her friend dropped out, so I took her number. Time wasn't great, as I ran the whole thing with her, but she set her best 5K time since we started running again in June!

4.1 miles in 31:18 last night. Fastest I've ran more than two miles in some time. I wasn't even overly pushing myself either. Doing less runs overall and more resistance and weight training. Glad it's coming back to me.

Ran the trail half at Mines of Spain today. I had the biggest sh*t eating grin on my face for 12 miles of the 13.7. Beautiful scenery, great friends. So much elevation gain. My knees hate me, though.

Odd. I've never had a trail "half" be off by more than .1 of a mile.

Fwiw, they were both dead on distance. They just chose not to have the finish line at the 13.1 mark. In one of them, I wasn't even out of the woods at 13.1.
