The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Why hasn't the NFL offered these guys a patch or a special colored towel and cleats? I mean they wear pink for breast cancer awareness. It's visible as hell and the Networks always mention it. Pick a bright neon color, and slap it on their cleats and their wrist bands and their towels and make it optional.

"Hey look, guys, we get it. You get pulled over in your Mercedes twice a month.. It's bull****. But the truth is those same racist ass holes are paying us lots of money to come watch you play. We then pay you a lot of that money. Continuing to get their money is important to both of us, or else you'd be getting pulled over twice a month in a Ford Focus.

Wear this patch, we'll get the networks to mention it a few times a game, it shouldn't be hard, it's a big story. We'll put out some commercials about it. People will stop *****ing about how you're protesting and maybe start talking about what you're protesting."

Give them a patch with little cartoon pigs in police uniforms. It's about disrespecting the flag, right? Nobody will have a problem with cartoon pigs.

I mean is that really difficult?

Welcome back '72. I always appreciated your humor, especially that one time when you were actually funny.

I didn’t vote for Hillary or trump, but I always vote.

:good!:

I don't know, if you get a kick out of this, but whenever someone asks me whether I voted (I don't vote) for Trump -- I usually go well, "are you telling me I should vote for the Diaper Wearer?" I've had a few just stare at me like a light bulb went off.

Actually, I believe the NFL has a pretty good history of not allow symbols either of the social or advertising types. Players have had to change shoes, players haven't been allowed to wear patches or helmet stickers -- heck they won't even let them advertise during news conferences after the game.

At this point, the owners are in a box, some players have already stood showing really they have no principles -- you have the remaining hold out which probably really don't like The Man and unless someone does something they probably are going to wait and see.

Inside players’ dilemma with US Soccer’s anthem rule | New York Post

Not exactly true and not exactly apples to apples. That's a national team playing as representatives of the US. Same bylaw doesn't apply to club (regional) teams.

I hear you on club being different. I was just pointing out on the international level it is required and it is. FIFA doesn't want a part of it regardless of your country on the world stage. That's not it's business. For some countries, it might protect the players from doing something stupid and never being seen again.

Probably wise on their part. Plus, it makes perfect sense to say that if you don't feel moved to stand for your country's anthem, then you certainly aren't moved to play for your country.

All is great. I took a break for a few weeks after being berated by another poster for a joke. I didn't feel like f****** with the whole thing for a while. I still don't really, so I probably won't be around as much. It ceases to be fun when some people can't take an obvious joke that was in no way mean spirited. Thanks for the welcome.

So you're being a baby about someone being a baby?

In all seriousness, welcome back tho.

Good to see you back 72....i for one appreciate your humor

With that said.... if the players want to sit or kneel during the anthem.... let 'em. The only reason the owners are coming out with the "must stand" stance is because its damage control.

Since I'm not an owner, I say take a knee and etc. and see how that works out in the long run. As ratings continue to decline as well as attendance.... **** them ..... let them do what they want.
Thanks CP. I hope your luck takes a turn for the best. You are due.

Give the players an alternative, less offensive method for getting their message out and assuage the delicate flowers who are offended.

It's not hard and you take the wind out of the sails of a lot of the backlash without throwing your athletes under the bus.

Well, just an observation of what appears to be going on out in the world. They are going to have to make the players stand, and all that man hugging is probably going to have to be gone as well -- generally speaking most people don't want to see this stuff. But even, if the players do what their masters tell them, we all know its BS, so really how many of the fans are coming back? I suspect not many, but I don't know for sure - my guess.

It would stop the huge amounts of bleeding (I agree there) but I doubt it changes the long-term trend of the NFL, ESPN, etc.

Clearly the owners are in the box, not so much the players -- most of them will be out of the league when the financial problems appear. The NFL is in the box, and they appear to be without any balls.

The players did something to “send a message”, knowing it would offend part of the fan base.

It did in fact offend part of the fan base, but instead of treating it as an equal and opposite reaction to their action, it’s labeled as racism or suppression of free speech or whatever. No. It’s two opinions with equal weight. They think what they’re doing is right. The other side thinks what they’re doing is stupid. No one has the moral high ground on correctness here. The part the players seem to be forgetting is that free speech has consequences, especially when you’re doing it at work. You are free to say whatever you want, but you are not free from the repercussions of what you say.

I was a combat medic in Vietnam above Danang in 1972 during the Easter Offensive, The Highway of Horror, when we lost and retook Quang Tri. I held a dying Afro-American soldier in my arms as that brother told me to tell his moma, "It don't hurt".

He and thousands upon thousands of others died for for your freedoms. Not standing during the anthem, irregardless of anything else that shows disrespect for, in fact disrespects our fallen heros.

And that "delicate flower" thing...You can kiss my rosey red ass mofo.

Good to see you've posted. I hope you stay around & post a little bit more this time bc I like to see what's your opinion on things going on.
Thanks WTOB. My opinion is disrespect the flag to your heart's content. We have that right, but be prepared to accept the consequences.

I haven't watch the overpaid football players in 3 or 4 years. If they aren't careful, they are going to kill the goose that laid the golden egg, and the owners know it.

Something like this is probably what will end up happening. I would say probably support for certain organizations too, beyond just a patch, but I think that's what they are working on

Nobody in the NFL is saying anything about combat vets, nor are they intending any disrespect to you or your friends or any other fallen soldiers. Most, if not all of them have acknowledged appreciation for your service and the service of others.

Your negative perception is a choice on your part. The decision to get fired up about peope on TV or what I say is also a choice. Absolutely none of that has any tangible negative effect on you. It doesn't result in you needing stitches, or being tazored, it doesn't result in you getting handcuffed, spending a night in jail, or taking money out of your pocket to hire an attorney.

So, yes, if you CHOOSE to get your panties in a bunch over a slight that you CHOSE to perceive in a way that it's clearly not intended, then "delicate flower" is 100% appropriate, and "rosey" seems like the most fitting adjective for your hindparts.
