The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

I was under the assumption that the government controls the military, and the taxpayers pay for it. How is that different from socialized healthcare?
Government's job is to provide for the common defense. There is nothing in the Constitution about healthcare, or food stamps, or housing.

Are you serious or just a troll?

This protest has never been about the troops. It has nothing to do with them. Using their deaths to shut up your political opponents is disrespectful to their sacrifice, IMO.

And you are telling me I should not care about someone disrespecting my fallen Vietnam war brothers; and all America's fallen soldiers-whether from the Revolution or those 2017 fallen heros who are to date:

Staff Sergeant Aaron R. Butler
Hostile fire - IED attack
Nangarhar Province

Specialist Christopher Michael Harris
Hostile fire - IED attack Kandahar

Sergeant Jonathon Michael Hunter
Hostile fire - IED attack
Kandahar

Private 1st Class Hansen B
Kirkpatrick
Hostile fire - indirect fire
Helmand

Sergeant Eric M. Houck
Hostile fire - small arms fire
Nangahar Achin district

Sergeant William M. Bays Hostile fire - small arms fire Nangahar Achin district

Corporal Dillon C. Baldridge
Hostile fire - small arms fire Nangahar Achin district

Sergeant Joshua P. Rodgers,
Hostile fire - small arms fire Southern Nangarhar province

Sergeant Cameron H. Thomas
Hostile fire - small arms fire Southern Nangarhar province

Staff Sergeant Mark R. DeAlencar
Hostile fire - small arms fire
Nangarhar

Sergeant 1st Class Robert R. Boniface
Non-hostile
Logar

So NFL players and those who support them like you want me to disregard their blatant disrespecting of a ceremony that by it's very nature honors all American war dead.

BUT

You get to be offended by statues over 1-1/2 centuries ago most folk didn't know existed.

You are displaying the height of hypocrisy.

Out of one side of your mouth you are telling me, and the millions who agree with me, what we can't be offended by. And out of the other side of your mouth you are now telling us we have to accept not only disrespecting the fallen, but the offense you take over whatever is your issue du jour.

No.

You’re proving my point.

You can be offended by whatever the hell you want. You are offended by NFL players because you are intentionally ignoring what they’re saying. No one is claiming that your opinion is a sign that America is dead.

I’m not here saying, “Oh, Orangedog is offended for a reason I don’t like! That means he’s a butthurt pu$$y!”

You have the right to your opinion and I can see where you are coming from. I just agree with the many other veterans who say they fought for this right to protest.

Yeah, America's peak definitely happened in the 1940s when black people had no rights and women were second-class citizens. Great point. Too bad our pansy asses decided people other than white men mattered.
The peak happened sometime before people thought that the world owed them something. Has nothing to do with wanting to blame racism, or sexism , or whatever ism of the day that crybabies like you whine about.

My mother was born in 1914, and became a successful business owner during those "repressive" times, and remained one for over 60 years until her death.

There was definitely some old guy in 1914 saying, “Air conditioning?! Back in my day, we dealt with any temperature like REAL men. Now we’re full of weak pansies and our country is dying.”

To me, as long as the protestors aren’t committing a crime, I care more about why they are protesting than I do about methods.
Instead of protesting, which is basically whining, they should get off their asses, and make something out of themselves. Anyone can in this country.

No. Somebody quit whining, and came up with a way to keep cool.

“Wahh, people are weak! Wahh, millennials! Wahh, socialists! Wahh, America is dying! Wahh, War on Christians! Wahh, PC culture! Wahh, protests!”

Then to top it all off: “Wahh, too much whining.”

Ok

I have never once said I thought the protest was about the troops.
I have always known it is the BLM issue.

I have always said the flag and anthem ceremony is about honoring many things America, NOT LEAST OF WHICH it does in fact honor and bring to rememberance our war dead.

Your last sentence is just so much BS to me.

That’s partly true.... every year that passes more and more people can’t handle doing manual work outdoors

They DO have a right to protest. Always have. I've always said that.

I've also said just because you can do a thing (in a particular location), doesn't mean you should.

I can go to the cemetery and piss on your grandmothers's grave, right?

Should I.... hell no! That's frickin evil.

Should Pence have stolen the limelight during the pre-game ceremonies by walking out after Manning's jersey was retired?
No. That WAS disrespectful.

The players taking a knee during the flag and anthem crermony are no less disrespectful.

It's supposed to bring to remembrance all sorts of things. Not just war heroes, but all American heroes. If you think it's disrespectful to troops then you should also conclude it's disrespectful to MLK jr. I'm pretty sure their intent is not to disrespect MLK or any American heroes so you can unwad your panties.
