The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Actually, I don't think the idea of throwing money around came from the players. I think the league has been trying to brainstorm on a way to resolve the issue without alienating people/fans that stand on both sides of the issue. So what the league did is approach the players with this idea... it is an easy solution for the league and it can get some good PR. In return, they can hope that is enough to get the players to stand for the anthem.

I guess one question I would have for those that oppose the players that stand for the flag is that if you convince them to stand after all of this, do you care if the players have a sincere appreciation for the flag and the country or do you just want them to just stand there and shut up whether they really care about the ceremony? Just wondering what the end game is for coercing people to do something they may not want to do. Are you looking for them to have a sincere respect for the flag or are just looking for them to conform? Just curious.

I didn’t think the players issue was with the NFL. I’m confused as to how the NFL (Emphasis on NFL) pledges to donate money to these things and now they’re fine and not protesting? Do what now?

As to your question (I assume you meant kneel), I have no respect for any of the ignorant protesters. There’s nothing they can do, they’re the scum on the bottom of my shoes.

Reports that the ESPN layoffs would not impact on-air talent, appear to have been greatly exaggerated. Moreover, it looks like ESPN’s flagship SportsCenter programs will be hardest hit.

According to a memo from ESPN Executive Vice President Norby Williamson, who oversees the SportsCenter franchise, the network will reduce its number of SC anchors and airings of the program. The evening airings of ESPNews will end on Thursday.

With these initiatives we will shift existing resources and the current editions of SportsCenter airing on ESPNEWS between 7-11 p.m. will end on November 30.

SportsCenter will continue to air on ESPNEWS from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Sundays during the NFL season.

ESPN as we have known it for decades is changing dramatically, and within a few years it will be unrecognizable.

You missed it the first time I said it, so let me try this again. I DO NOT believe the players were the ones demanding money. The league offered this as a bribe or as a way to persuade the players to just stand for the flag. Seems like the easiest thing that could be thought of that would also be good PR move for the league. The players are not the ones (in my opinion) that came out looking for a shakedown. The league offered that as their solution.

All I asked was does it matter if they are sincere when they stand or not?

I never said that you said the players demanded money. I’m saying the players did not demand money. That’s why this is all out of left field.

What does being sincere when they stand or not even mean? You either stand like a respectable human being or you don’t.

You need to take that question to the league, not the players, imo. I'm not sure why the players are being asked to respond when it seems clear to you and me both that this money to charities idea originated in the league office.

This is the NFL's way to buy-back the fans it lost. The NFL gives money, the players don't protest, the fans come back, and the NFL's cash registers start opening again. Don't be fooled as this is totally about money......actually regaining lost money.

When in doubt or disarray.....throw money.

For a job well done

Goodell should have been canned after he bungled the Ray Rice investigation which was followed by the absurd witch hunt otherwise known as Deflategate.

Didn't buy me back. Why watch the NFL when they are giving money to a BS narrative, and far left Soros "charities".

I'm ok with the NFL doing whatever they want. I quit on the NFL when they quit on me and I certainly won't be following them - anymore.

Sure I have. The issue is, who are they paying "respect" to and why would those people want others to pay insincere "respect"?
Do you have to work at being an ass or does it come naturally?

How about the people that died so they could make millions playing a ****ing game?

You and they can say that isn't what it is about, but that's the way some people.... MILITARY people.... take it.

Goodell's bosses are the owners and he has done an A+ job in most of their opinions. He does their dirty work and takes all the heat for it. The owners are an afterthought and are rarely villainized. Of course they love him.

From their collective perspective, the only real disaster we have seen under Goodell's watch is the public response to players kneeling, which was pretty much out of his control. The $ has grown immensely on his watch, overall.

If you are referring to the soldiers, there are several problems with that. One, the flag or anthem doesn't just belong to the military. Secondly, the military is there to uphold the Constitution. Someone not standing for the flag or anthem is a person's God given right. Lastly, since the Vietnam era, the powers that be have cleverly convinced the sheep in this country that patriotism means supporting the military and all of the military's actions. That is an erroneous and dangerous connection to make. They also make the non-patriotic a demon that hates and disrespects the soldier, a demagogic tactic. Instead of having disdain for the soldier, far too often, the non-patriotic have a disdain for those that lead the soldiers into these ridiculous missions all over the globe.

Few, if any, player kneeling has any disdain or ill will for US soldiers.

Where is the outrage from these same military people when our Constitution is being violated on a daily basis? What is really more important in the grand scheme of things, a few people kneeling at a sports event or a government that is out of control?

Why are military people more concerned about what a bunch of people playing a kids' game do or don't do?
