The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

How are they not comparable? Trump said peaceful protesters should be respected in their in how they express themselves. He's a total hypocrite. He called for their jobs and labeled them sons of *****es and rallied his stupid base against them. How is that not hypocritical?

Yeah, we have more freedom than Iran, but that doesn't make the two scenarios incomparable.

You guys will say anything to protect the guy skeeting garbage down your throats.

The two situations are not even remotely the same. The kneelers didn't even know what they were "protesting" or they were protesting because someone hurt their feelings. Not to mention, they were at work.

His statement literally has nothing to do with anybody's reasons for protesting and that's what you're making it about.

Why ruin your VN politics rep by arguing a clearly wrong position over something so inconsequential? Save your political capital for something that matters. It's weird that you defend him over stuff like this. It's like you're his biggest fan.

Let the butthurt flow Huff. Tired of getting beat down on a daily basis?

He deranges those who love him or hate him. You're clearly deranged over this hypocritical tweet. You can't look at it with an ounce of objectivity.

If I'm thinking selfishly, the Trump presidency has been pretty good for me and mine, in the short term. It remains to be seen what kind of long run benefit/damage he can do. Of course not everybody is benefiting like us and some are worse off. But the point is, he is not nearly as bad as advertised. I can be objective about that. However, he is dumb and hypocritical and this tweet is just another example in a long list of examples. There is no disputing this.

Note: my parents have made bank on stocks, which will ultimately be my money some day. Not sure if it will be there by the time I get it. His tariffs on lumber and building material have inflated the housing market, which hurts me as I will be buying in the next year. I think I probably come out on top with those two scenarios clashing, but I won't see the benefit for decades.

I have never read any of his tweets, or anybody's tweets. I have never been on Facebook or Twitter, or whatever tweets are on. I am more concerned with actions than words.

Most of what Trump says is for effect, because he knows that you people have a fit over it.

The anti fascists are planning to kneel tonight during the NCG. Dress warmly.

And Jesse Jackson thinks the “halftime song” should be we shall overcome. Forget that a black artist is doing the halftime show. There’s racism afoot y’all.

I figured that you might, since you constantly p!ss and moan about insignificant bullsh!t.

Like rambling on about my social media habits in a thread about the NFL?

Somebody mentioned twitter. It's time for me to inexplicably discuss how I don't use facebook.

72, to allay some of the needless bellyaching, can you confirm that this was the meat of your post and not just randomly posting your social media habits?

Thanks.

Do you really need to protect him from my teasing? Jesus, you guys are so weird.

He had a point, but the setup had nothing to do with his point. Just non sequitur rambling. I use social media. I don't think what Trump says on Twitter typically matters much, either.

Yet one more reason not to watch.

Looks like the NFL is at it again.

Super Bowl LII program ad by veterans organization rejected by NFL

NFL rejects Super Bowl ad from veterans group that asks players to stand during anthem - News - Stripes

The NFL rejected a one-page ad for the NFL’s Super Bowl program submitted by AMVETS with the message “Please Stand.” The veterans organization called that corporate censorship and said similar ads were accepted by the NHL and NBA for official programs for their all-star games.

“The Super Bowl game program is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams and the Super Bowl,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told USA TODAY Sports by email. “It’s never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement. The NFL has long supported the military and veterans and will again salute our service members in the Super Bowl with memorable on-field moments that will be televised as part of the game.”

Joe Chenelly, executive director of AMVETS, said players who protest by kneeling during the national anthem are exercising their free speech and that AMVETS only wanted to do the same.

Marion Polk, AMVETS national commander, wrote a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, dated Monday, that says in part: “Freedom of speech works both ways. We respect the rights of those who choose to protest as these rights are precisely what our members have fought — and in many cases died — for. But imposing corporate censorship to deny that same right to those veterans who have secured it for us all is reprehensible and totally beyond the pale.”
