The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Sure, books are subject to bias but there is quite a lot more effort (as well as expense) put into publishing a book than an anonymous off-the-cuff message board comment.

Are you arguing that the Bellamy salute is revisionist history?

Do you want to ellaborate? Do you want to post the history and/or timeline on the salute? Do you think it was used for the pledge 20 years ago? 40? 60? 100? What say you?

I find it very concerning that I've seen many people retweeting articles written in major publications that call today's new rule on kneeling "modern day slavery". This ignorant **** has to stop. It's disrespectful, it shows that if you agree with it that you have zero historical knowledge or perspective.

Slavery, NAZI, Hitler, fascists, communists, Mussolini, KKK.

All these terms are overused and should be done away with when referring to modern day America by the MSM or any other dip **** that can get an op-ed piece published in the Indy Star.
You need to add 'hero' to that list.

That was how you pledged allegiance back in the day. Everybody did it.

Maybe. It was also pre World War II for the most part. If you see someone doing that now you don’t think they are doing a Bellamy Salute, but Heil Hitler. Same thing with a swastkia.

Jesus, you could do this for every fact ever.

"The sky is blue? Really? Elaborate. What book told you that? Do you trust everything you see? How do you define blue? Was it blue 100 years ago?"

Ok. An answer is not required. Do you trust everything YOU see?

Speak for the Eagles? If you watch the Cowboys All or Nothing series, you'll see a diversity of opinions and motivations. It seems pretty clear Jerry Jones felt strongly about respecting the flag and I don't think it came from a $ standpoint.

What's funny is the Cowboys kneeled to pray before the anthem as their sign of protest and solidarity, without hurting people's feelings about the flag, and the Arizona fans still booed them resoundingly.

For so many people, it's not about the flag. They are going to be mad, no matter why/how you protest.

Its bc they just want to watch football and be entertained. Its a break from all the problems every individual has. We don't what to deal with this stuff while we are just trying to enjoy a football game.

So you know that the salute had absolutely NOTHING to do with the Nazis or fascist Italy. I wonder id Ras did.

I guarantee you he knows that.

I think the point is that there is a fine line between patriotism and jingoism, and a lot of people are on the wrong side of that line.

The best way to answer if I was aware of its history is to go back in this same thread I believe and find where I first posted that image and commented on it.

So no praying before games?

If they just want to watch football, why do we have a flag ceremony at all?

"I'd rather avoid my problems than deal with them, and the NFL isn't making that easy for me. How dare they"
