The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Did you state "scahadenfreude"? No.

Did I say you stated "schadenfreude"? Did you say that I said that you stated "schadenfreude"?

Have mercy. To be clear, I do not wish for anyone to suffer, not the owners nor the players. I am apathetic to any monetary woes the owners could possibly suffer due to a strike. I think most could endure such an event and probably survive. Is apathy to a millionaire/billionaire's monetary woes a mental illness? If so, I am guilty.

It is a privately owned business. If the NFL can prevent Kapernick from kneeling they can certainly set the policy for all players to stay in the locker room. It is simply the other side of the coin.

I don’t disagree with you. Was really just pointing to ludicrous decisions forced on some due to (what I view to be) petty childish actions of grown men acting out while at work.

Now my own sound bite aside, the current policy is to attend the anthem. So for Villanueva to adhere to policy he should have attended. The team chose to make a unified statement and stay in the locker room. Villanueva’s vet buddies didn’t want him to do that I believe. So he tried to just be in the tunnel and was seen. Comply with league policy, respect the national colors by his own conduct code, and not disrespect his team mates. Why did he have to get backed into that kind of situation by a bunch of other adults acting petty (not the Steelers, the “ protestors”)?

The ones that get hurt most by it are not millionaires, but whatever. I would bet half the guys who make a roster never take home $1M.

I think it was nothing more than an attention getting gesture led by a spoiled, washed up QB that couldnt handle the fact that he lost his job.

I read an article last week in passing that stated they thought he still had starter talent. No idea of the agenda of the writer. And while his stats were down I do think he’s better than the QBs some of the teams fielded this year.

I was more referring to the owners woes but you can take it how you choose. Man you sure like to argue and make assumptions. Are you a lawyer?

Schadenfreude is mental illness.

Your worldview basically depends on the attitude that he just posted, doesn't it?

Capitalism depends on market steering based on some sort of (financial) suffering that stems from consumer preference.

Why chastise him for stating such?

Then the owners would really feel it in their wallets.

Sure. I know they would suffer. I know I would REALLY feel sorry for them.

For context.

If you expect Capitalism to work, you should want some degree of "suffering", else the market doesn't work. That's what it depends on.

I would say he is a middle of the pack QB right now. They pulled Jay Cutler out of retirement, Josh McCown, Jacoby Brissett, Trevor Siemian, Drew Stanton, Sam Bradford, Nathan Peterman, Mike Glennon, Matt Cassel, Geno Smith, TJ Yates, Brock Osweiler, Brian Hoyer and others out there over Kapernick. I'm not saying he's Joe Montana, but he is far better than these guys. And without even looking at the stats, I bet if you took away Matt Cassel, he might have more playoff wins than everyone else on this list combined.

I don't disagree. But the suffering would normally be done by those providing a inferior product. One could possibly say that is what the NFL is becoming. If entertainment enterprises become to embroiled in the political realm, especially if they tend to espouse one view predominantly over another, they must be willing to suffer. I do not want them to suffer but I also have no sympathy for them either. I will reserve my sympathy for those who are far, far less fortunate than the owners or the players.

I said "should not"......I realize the owners have given away the farm to these athletes......

NFL owners haven't given away anything. They tried their best to hide information about head injuries for years, just to protect their image. I wouldn't exactly describe them as "benevolent"

There are winners and losers in every system. The existence of losers in whatever system you support does not mean you get off on others losing.

You try so hard to nail me for hypocrisy and you end up making these huge and stupid stretches that make no sense. I'm sure I'll prove to be hypocritical at some point, we all do it. Just be patient and pick your battles. :good!:

I do agree with you on his ability to play. I also believe he did it to himself.

You wanted to "nail" me for "getting off" on someone else's misfortune which I never stated. Then you want to call someone else out for trying to "nail" you? Is this hypocritical?

He crapped in his own bed. My point is that the league kept saying that there was no collusion or secret agreement to keep him out of the league, which I find false. Of course, they can't legally say they intentionally kept him out of the league because of his antics. But the crap they rolled out there last year and tried to pass it off as quarterbacks was glaringly obvious. Kapernick's playing abilities (or lack of) were greatly exaggerated to help justify some of the decisions made on QB signings.

Kaepernick is a distraction. It’s not because of race, it’s not because he’s been blackballed. If this were Cam, Russell Wilson, Watson, they be signed in a second. His talent doesn’t exceed his distraction and drama. To me it’s not about his kneeling, it’s the dumb, immature stuff he’s done since he began kneeling.

Put it this this way:

The juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

You are right, you didn't exactly say you were glad that they would suffer, but the sarcasm implied that. You said your feelings were apathetic and I walked away. It's not exactly a stretch to think you meant it the other way.
