The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

You seem to be pushing the "players make too much money compared to teachers" complaint, pushed by lots of people that don't understand the difference in demand. There's nothing to figure out; owners compromise when they have to, but "giving away the world" is quite the opposite of what most of them do.

Or both groups could be thankful for the wonderful living they have and not act in an inciteful and provocative fashion towards the people that enable that living needlessly. And if they do screw them they deserve whatever they get.

Both groups deserve a healthy chunk of change for the revenue generated. Neither deserves or is entitled to the amount they get though.

I think the most entitled part of all of this is individual fans talking about how the entire system exists for them, and all parties should bend to that fan's will and organize their entire existence about making that fan happy.

That's entitlement. No fan is that important, and fans as a whole aren't organized enough. Revenues go up or down a little, but they're going to be swimming in money no matter what.

And it'll be money they earned. I don't get your last paragraph at all. Where else should that money go? Should they pay fans to watch?

I said "take home" pay. If you make $860k, you're probably lucky to take home $400k after paying taxes in 10 different states, your agent, insurance, NFLPA contribution, and whatever other expenses you may have, so you'd need to play 3 years to become a millionaire, which is the average career length.

"Half" was a pretty spot on estimate.
They don't pay taxes in 10 different states doofus.

And I think you are completely off the reservation in your argument. But hey it’s your opinion.

Sports are the ultimate customer service industry. There is no tangible product. It’s really just entertainment. Thus remove the ticket sales and merchandizing and it completely ceases to exist. And the world continues on without missing a beat.

All I was saying in the last paragraph is the sports revenues in general are completely out of control. None of them in any sport deserve the ridiculous amount of money they receive.

Taken to a theoretical extreme, sure. In the real world, that manifests itself as random individuals claiming the NFL should bow to them because NFL revenue going from $14 billion to $13.7 billion is evidence of their enormous power.

The NFL should at least attempt to bow to them since without them collectively they cease to exist.

So what’s your angle on this? Are you a pro athlete? Do you derive your income from a professional sports source? None of my business but that’s one really big bucket of water you’re toting around man. Hey it’s Your right though. I don’t mean to incite you with this I’m just curious.

I mean, I agree with you that it's a lot of money, and there are other occupations that provide more tangible benefits to society. But if that's the amount the public is willing to generate to watch them, then they earned it and (in some sense) deserve it. It mostly depends on how you define "deserve" though

I would say he is a middle of the pack QB right now. They pulled Jay Cutler out of retirement, Josh McCown, Jacoby Brissett, Trevor Siemian, Drew Stanton, Sam Bradford, Nathan Peterman, Mike Glennon, Matt Cassel, Geno Smith, TJ Yates, Brock Osweiler, Brian Hoyer and others out there over Kapernick. I'm not saying he's Joe Montana, but he is far better than these guys. And without even looking at the stats, I bet if you took away Matt Cassel, he might have more playoff wins than everyone else on this list combined.

All of those guys listed are back up quality guys.... he may be slightly better than some but not good enough to warrant the headache.... the nfl will overlook anything they can to win football games but will kick you out of the league for shoplifting if they consider you average to below average.... Colin fits the average to below average category.... he was 1-10 in his last season as a QB....he is just not worth it.

It literally does exist for them...... that is why the owners put out their own money to provide the players a place to play so that the fans PAY for the product......you have such a twisted view of private owned business......

I started to jump on his post as well, because on the surface it does look idiotic. But he has a point about the individual fan. He's picking fly **** out of pepper though, but he is correct. The league doesn't give a flying **** about you or me as individuals, but when the stadiums are empty, they take notice. When jersey sales are down, they notice... That's why 'organized' boycotts of any kind against any company are usually laughable because they know there will never be enough protesters to make any difference in the bottom line. And companies, in this case the NFL... don't care because they know it won't last. Fans will be flocking back in the fall. Clownperdick is gone and all but forgotten. The world is on its' correct axis once again for the NFL.

Stop... was "he" 1-10 or were the 49ers 1-10? I'm sure he wasn't the sole reason for all 10 losses. Also, its amazing that people seem to gloss over the impact of Harbaugh leaving.

What do you mean they don't pay taxes in 10 states?

I'm serious... because I could have sworn places like NYC and Toronto/Canada do take out income on athletes and entertainers that perform in their jurisdiction.
Why do you think Tiger Woods and Shaquille and __________ fill it in... all 'live' in Florida?
