The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

There are winners and losers in every system. The existence of losers in whatever system you support does not mean you get off on others losing.

You try so hard to nail me for hypocrisy and you end up making these huge and stupid stretches that make no sense. I'm sure I'll prove to be hypocritical at some point, we all do it. Just be patient and pick your battles. :good!:

I'm not "trying" to do anything, and I don't see any of them as a "stretch". Just because you're blind to some things doesn't mean they're not there.

In order to allay the possibility of this response from you, which is all too common, I immediately posted context. Go back and read it.

Nowhere in there did he say he was "getting off" on anything.

He said:

Sure. I know they would suffer. I know I would REALLY feel sorry for them.

He sarcastically stated that basically he won't lose any sleep over it. "getting off?" really, huff? And you accuse me of huge stretches? Get hold of yourself.

Now, my point stands. If you want the market to work, it's based on a certain amount of planned suffering that steers the market. Why call him out for stating the suffering that will happen, and not showing enough sadness for the market happening? He's espousing an agreement to the every ideal you promote as the unattainable goal in the other thread.

The simple problem is that you were being hypocritical. I'll give you credit where credit is due. You're really good at denials and hand waving in trying to cover it. So, you got that going for you.

You wanted to "nail" me for "getting off" on someone else's misfortune which I never stated. Then you want to call someone else out for trying to "nail" you? Is this hypocritical?

He'll pull every stop to try to misdirect. Don't sweat it. We all knew what you meant, and he's just left to arm wave about unerminig his greatest ideal.

:good!:

I will have to admit to a little "schadenfreude" in Huff's case.:p

In huff's defense, I don't know that I was pushing for the "hypocrite" narrative as much as a "needlessly argumentative" narrative.

I mean, Geez... As an AnCap guy, why post that someone is butthurt just because he's not going to watch a product that he disagrees with, or call you out for stating that you're OK with a bit of financial suffering to steer the market in the direction you want it to go?

I suspect that the market was steered away from the direction he preferred, so... he's actually the butthurt one by lashing out at ya'll.

But that may be a stretch. It's just what I suspect, and what I was pointing out.

for a single year you are right, but a quick search says min salary is $435K a year and $860K is the average

I said "take home" pay. If you make $860k, you're probably lucky to take home $400k after paying taxes in 10 different states, your agent, insurance, NFLPA contribution, and whatever other expenses you may have, so you'd need to play 3 years to become a millionaire, which is the average career length.

"Half" was a pretty spot on estimate.

You just wrote a novel about the most insignificant **** and have the nerve to call me "argumentative".

It's funny to me when a flock of contrarians all squawk in unison at someone for being argumentative. Lol.

It just looks kinda dumb.

Oh, there's a lot of us arguers in here, and lots of us are argumentative.

I think that some people are a little more self-consistent in their arguments than others, though. And some are a little more receptive to being shown consistency problems in their arguments.

ETA: I think huff is actually pretty consistent with his worldview and is better than many in here. I just noticed two posts in this thread where he seemed a bit contradictory in treatment, and he got his feathers up over it.

He crapped in his own bed. My point is that the league kept saying that there was no collusion or secret agreement to keep him out of the league, which I find false. Of course, they can't legally say they intentionally kept him out of the league because of his antics. But the crap they rolled out there last year and tried to pass it off as quarterbacks was glaringly obvious. Kapernick's playing abilities (or lack of) were greatly exaggerated to help justify some of the decisions made on QB signings.

And we agree on this also. I absolutely believe the league owners colluded (there’s that horrible word...) to make an example of him. And I’m not sure I blame them. And it is chicken **** and disingenuous to say other wise but if they didn’t they would get sued.

But here is where I use your own words against you (in a constructive way). Who cares. We have entitled baby players acting badly at work and we have elitist rich owners trying to walk the middle instead of cracking down. Literally trying to have their cake and eat it too. Players, shut up and play. Owners, stop being weasels and address it.

I’m glad for the revenue loss. It sends the right message to them. STFU and play. I can also agree that people don’t really understand their own feelings for causing the revenue loss. But in this case, dealing with a bunch of entitled cry baby rich people, and bonus in causing that douchebag Goodell grief, I’m totally ok with an end justifies the means result. Karma really was a ***** in this case.

And finally I’m proud of how my Cowboys handled it. Love or hate Jerry he managed his team. And to the credit of his players they didn’t test him. Everyday when the team takes to the practice field at the Star in Frisco they walk past a monument that states something like “It is a privilege to be a player or coach and represent the Dallas Cowboys organization.” That message sets the right tone. Now if we could just win s few damn football games. 🤬

Uh, if you think NFL owners are these magnanimous individuals giving players MORE than they deserve, you don't know a thing about the NFL.

I really have no empathy for either group as a whole. There are some amazing individuals. Look at JJ Watt right now. But as a group? Nah.

If that game generates billions of dollars because people like watching them, where do you suggest that money go? Straight into billionaire owners' pockets, or to the players that generate the money?

You fail to see the issue that you are pushing.....I will give you more time to figure it out......

You seem to be pushing the "players make too much money compared to teachers" complaint, pushed by lots of people that don't understand the difference in demand. There's nothing to figure out; owners compromise when they have to, but "giving away the world" is quite the opposite of what most of them do.
