The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

I love your last point. Tell them what cause they should take up. You're an arrogant a$$ for suggesting what cause they should support.

They are protesting a perceived social injustice in america and this is the time when they can do so and receive the most publicity. People like you are saying, "You shouldn't protest that. You should protest this and you should do it in a way that I don't have to see it."
The bold is the greatest point you’ve ever made.

I didn’t say they shouldn’t protest whatever it is this week they’re saying they’re protesting. Nice try.

You can’t help people who don’t want helped. You also can’t help others until you have your **** in order. The black community is its own biggest problem. Nothing will change u til they understand this and address this issue.

If they’re protesting police then shouldn’t they be protesting police and not the flag and anthem? Never mind, that would be intelligent.

What does it have to do with the military?

Exactly my point. If they can say what the flag means to them then do can I and so can others. They alone don’t get to determine what the flag means or represents.

Though it’s incredibly easy to make the connection that the flag represents the military moreso than it does an infinitesimally small number of cops.

Collusion? Owners not wanting that circus in their locker room is not enough to say they are colluding. Kaep is bad for business. This whole ordeal is bad for business on an issue the NFL cannot control nor do they have any influence in said issues. Theres nothing but conjecture to even entertain the idea of collusion without common business sense taking over.

Social media may fall into new litigation that will reclassify them and they will fall into some sort of free speech ordeal with how influential it has become in the unchartered territory that is the internet. Although as it stands, they are a private business and can do whatever they want.
Stop it. We've seen NFL teams bring in drug addicts, thieves, bullies and other lawbreakers. Kaepernick breaks no laws but can't find a job in a league that was starving for quarterbacks last year.

Kaepernick also sucks. He’s not worth the negativity he’d bring in.

In other words, he’s not worth the trouble.

Where is the attention going? It seems to me it’s just a circle jerk.

Players kneel to bring attention to perceived social injustice/police brutality. But the “attention” created is from two sides arguing over whether its their right, respectful, etc. Few of any people are actually discussing the reason behind the act. Other than the NFL throwing token money at some social causes, what’s changed?

Stop... lets start with this entire argument with regards to them wanting to get attention.

Kaepernick is the one that started this. He was taking a knee on the sideline and had quietly done it for a couple of preseason games before he was asked why by a media person. Kaepernick did not go to the media and announce this... if that were the case, he would have been seeking to draw attention to his protest.

Ok so I have a cause I want the world to talk about: The commercialization of the American university. I am going to overrun the Atlanta MLK parade by having a large number of people stop the parade and turn their back on it. Thoughts on how my protest will be perceived?

Before you perform this ill-advised "protest" maybe ask yourself a couple of questions like: Am I being an a******? Do I have to watch the NFL on Sunday afternoons if men kneeling makes me so indignant? Am I able to turn off the T.V. if this 2 minute minute display offends me so much?- Maybe I could do something better with my Sunday?--give back to the less fortunate perhaps? Why is this an an issue in my life? Why am I contemplating disturbing the MLK parade?--this is bizarre. Why am I so angry?

This is correct. The other children in the league wanted attention too.

Again, the flag (up until 9/11) represented the entire country (not just the military) and represented what the country stood for. The key part being "what the country stands for". Their protest makes sense if you frame it from the angle of this country is supposed to be about life, liberty, freedom for all, yet we have a country that has no problem with the police abusing American citizens over the smallest of infractions.

Dang, you sure missed his point. But, I would also assume this post made you swell with pride as you typed it. Carry on.

Now you have lost the battle with this ignorant statement. NO ONE is ok with police abuse.

I don't know? Maybe taking the time and energy to drive to downtown Atlanta just to make a spectacle of oneself? Being provocative for dubious/misguided reasons? --in order to prove??? Let me ask you something Tums? Do you get out of the lazy-boy when you hear the anthem on TV?- place hand over heart---do you have the beer in the other hand or do you show some respect and put it down?

I never said it represents just the military. It sure as hell doesn’t represent just a couple of cops.
But hey, they’re getting people to hate them and ridicule their “cause” so good for them right? Lol

The other thing about Kap that everyone conveniently forgets. Is that he had a job and HE opted out of the contract thinking he was worth more than he actually was on a football field. HE made that decision not the league.

lol ... whoosh... right over your head. Am I being an assshole because I know itll rustle enough jimmies to get attention to my cause or because it has nothing to do with MLK and in protesting, I am disrespecting him?

Now, lets go with that. Here is where me and you are going to share some common ground because I do think there was a significant level of bandwagon jumping for most and a bit of genuine concern for the cause by others. I think the players that had a genuine concern for the cause should maybe have focused on a more effective solution, as opposed to just protesting. I think the other bandwagon jumpers are contrarians and like the attention they receive from being contrarians... esp. after Trump jumped into the conversation. I don't honestly know where the percentages are with regards to 60/40 or 70/30 or 50/50 on one side or the other, but I think you have a very sizeable number of players that are just doing this as a way to pizz off Trump.

Great job doubling down on ignorance. He was just using it as an example that you obviously missed.

Being provocative for dubious/misguided reasons? Hmmm... where have I seen this.....

What would make his scenario provacative? He’s clearly protesting th commercialization of the American University. He says so so that’s all it could possibly be.......right? Lol
