The Tyler Bray thread (merged)

You're right, they are looking for talent but they'd also be wise to look at intangibles. I give you Jeff George and Ryan Leaf on one side. I give you Tom Brady and Drew Brees on the other

Tim Tebow, Charlie Ward, Scott Frost, Kellan Moore, Danny Weurfell, Jay Barker and more had intangibles. Brady and Brees had talent.

I agree. I'm not bashing Ainge either, I'm proud he sought out help and was a man about the issue. My issue was Bray "embarrassing" the university. Outside Knoxville, 98% of fans couldn't give a crap about throwing a beer bottle or riding a jet ski like any college kid would.

Thy stuff is wayyyyyy overblown by most on here. If we were successful, people would love how laid back and cool he acted.

I'm from Atlanta. It made the first page of online AJC. In addition to front billing on ESPN. People in a lot of places outside of Knoxville noticed. But I do agree that it gets way overblown. Just the day and age we live in.

Did I just sleep through the entire past seasons or what. Tyler Bray had no quality wins and he failed to deliver every big game in clutch situations as I recall. Never make it in the NFL although I wish he would and him well.

Let me start this out by saying that Peyton Manning is the best QB to play for UT that I can remember. Comparing Bray to him is like comparing LeBron James to Michael Jordan, because they are the best and everyone gets compared to them. However when comparing the Bray and Manning we should only look at Manning's first 24 starts instead of all 45, since that is all that Bray had.

Indirectly comparing Bray to Lebron James is like comparing Tito Jackson to Michael Jackson.

Tyler is the only QB I've ever seen who threw as hard as Manning did when he first stepped onto the field at UT. And truth be told Bray has a bit more physical throwing talent than Manning did at the same age but lacks the mental talent that Manning has used along with his physical talent to make himself a legend.

How can you pass on a kid whose 'off field problems' are so much child's play? Beer bottles and jet skis? TB's immaturity is normal for a lot of college kids his age -- trust me on that one (you wouldn't believe the stories I could tell -- well some of you would). He's guilty of being young but that's about it.

Of course, he needs to mature and show that he's ready to take on the mental aspects that he ignored in college because he had so much talent in his arm and so much talent to throw to. The NFL will force him to grow up as we all are forced to grow up when we start having to worry about bills and keeping our jobs.

He'll either sink or swim. But there's no reason to think he'll sink because he acted like a college kid in college.

I can agree with most of this. Good post prof.

Tyler Bray, hated for no reason whatsoever. Played hard, put up crazy stats in a short career, had the most prolific offense in recent UT history, battled through injuries, was never suspended. But... He threw beer bottles and was a jet ski hot dogger. What a sick bastard.

No you don't.

No, I didn't. But, I recognize some in this thread who think that way.

name one game Foster fumbled 15 times.

Better yet, name one career where Foster fumbled 15 times.

Gramps/GAVol, I may be one of the few on VN that know he only fumbled 5 times during his entire career. One of those was charged to him that was on the QB. Just spotted a few in the thread who get down on most players unnecessarily.
:hi:

That Miami team lost two games in three years, not alot of shame there. He also lead the Vols to a stunning road win over them the next year. In addition to winning twice at the Swamp, twice in Tuscaloosa ( 4th and 23), and playing the second half of a six overtime win with a separated shoulder. I'm not arguing at all that Bray isn't more talented. But Casey was a LEADER and a WINNER. Bray, for whatever reason hasn't gotten there. Why do you think his stock is so low even with all those tools?

Because he played for Dooley. Explain the Clemson and Maryland losses please

We all have stories and we all know that boys will be boys. But I made it through college without destroying someone else's property. And I wasn't getting six figures worth of room, board and education.

Anytime a person even compares Bray with Manning I struggle to finish the post. These two do not compare. End of story. I would not sully Peyton's good rep by mentioning Bray in the same sentence, paragraph, or thread.

Manning played against UF his freshman year.

Todd Helton started, but Manning and the other true freshman Stewart(?) played also.

Come on, he got mop up duty with Brannon Stewart as the 3rd string qb in the 4th after Helton was hurt with the game out of hand and over. The point was that Manning didn't lose to Florida as the starting - or even 2nd string qb- as a freshman.

Imagine if we had hired Cut when we got Dooley. How good would we have been with Cut coaching Bray, Hunter, Rogers for three years. With Moore and Jones that first year.
Bray probably wouldn't have listened to any coach due to maturity issues. Da'Rick would have failed drug tests and wound up at Tenn. Tech, and Hunter would have gotten hurt, and played like he was protecting himself so he could leave school early.

This means nothing. Just because you're an angel and Tyler threw some bottles at a car doeant make him a bad person. People act like he's the only high profile athlete that's been in trouble and his trouble was extremely minor compared to most. Get over yourself Mr Perfect.

In physical talent, they more than compare. In fact, I would argue Bray has just as much, if not more "arm talent" than Mr. Manning.

As far as intangibles, I agree. They are not on the same page, although Peyton had a knack for choking in big games as well. He just had an NFL caliber defense to pick up the slack.

Clemson was a better team than we were. I obviously wasn't in the locker room for the MD game but there seems to be plenty of evidence to support the rumor that Fulmer caught a player on a cell phone and the argument that took place was the straw that broke the camels back. Still does nothing to change the fact that CC was a winner. His record speaks for itself.

I look dumb? Says the guy that comes on a message board and posts in character? Your moms calling, go upstairs and eat dinner before wrestling comes on.

Tennessee was 10-2 and Clemson was 8-4. Clemson was in no way better.

I'm far from perfect. But I managed to escape college without making the newspaper. I never said I'm a better person than TB, I'm just stating my opinion as to why he won't be a winner in the NFL.

Witch Doctor say really dont have to argue too much with you, your own post is the best rebuttal to what you type. Watch sports much? like I said thank you for being THIS side or the "argument" you represent the intelligence behind it quite well ha!
