The Worst Firing In Sports History Was

Johnny Majors?

I never liked Fulmer for his role in the Majors firing! Fullmer benefitted from having Cutcliffe and Chavis. ounce they left the Vols started going down hill! Majors won 3 SEC titles more than fulmer won and in 92 they fire him! If Arkansas's qb doesn't fumble the ball without being touched UT doesn't even play for the national title in 98! I really don't like fulmer sorry!

how many years straight the we beat bama under fulmer? stop and think about that.

we may never have another coach in my lifetime to do that, it will the best of times for me, do not care what others think.

it was amazing run and i loved every second of it.

Phil didn't exactly have the best record against Florida. Mark Richt and Fulmer are quite similar......

I love to see UT beat Bama! In fairness, Bama was going through A stretch then like the Vols are now! Fulmer always came up short vs Spurrier most of the time too!

Kinda like when Gen Lee lost Stonewall Jackson?

Just to compare, some folks will get their panties in a bunch over that statement.....

How many successful coaches surround themselves with lousy assistants? How many teams win National Championships without getting a lucky bounce or two along the way?

Fulmer surely isn't a coaching God, but he also gets a lot of unwarranted grief.

And Florida happened to be the best team in the SEC during most of Fulmer's tenure. Florida was to Fulmer what Alabama was to Majors.

If only Phil had more discipline all around at the end. I hope Butch puts both Florida and Bama to shame 3-5 years down the road.

You are about the 100th person to talk about CPF's "role" in CJM's firing. Will you be the first to provide the proof that it happened? Once again, let me help you, it NEVER happened.

No other teams on their way to the NC had any luck along the way. Try again.

Jerry Jones firing Jimmy Johnson as the Dallas Cowboys coach.

The second happened in Knoxville.

Before this is merged, Happy Thanksgiving to all the good folks of VN.

In Knoxville? I see it as a tie between 2.

Forcing Coach Pat Summitt to resign, even though a few might think it might have been for the best for the university under the circumstances, was a bad fire. That lady built the Lady Vols from nothing, and deserved the right to say when it was time for her to step down. I support Dave Hart, but when I learned he forced Pat out, I was sick.

On the football side, it wasn't Fulmer, or Majors. It was the forced resignation of the man who just accepted the AD position at Alabama. The events that led up to Bill Battle's resignation were shameful.

All UT needed was for Summit to have a spell during a game and freak out. That would've gone over real well.
