Time to go on record... Pre-Season Predictions

when is the last time UT had a bad season with a SR QB? look at recent history:

1991 Andy Kelly, 9-3, 3rd SEC
1993 Heath Shuler, 10-2, Tie-1st SEC East
1997 Peyton Manning, 11-2, 1st SEC East
1999 Tee Martin, 9-3, 2nd SEC East
2003 Casey Clausen, 10-3, Tie-First SEC East
2007 Erik Ainge, ?

No worse then 10-3 this year.
Rick Clausen started a significant part of the '05 season. I don't remember that being a season of accomplishment. Tennessee also started '88 0-6 with a senior QB.

People who say Jawja will beat the Vols are delusional. The Vols will win this game easily.

Quarterbacks
Erik Ainge; best QB in the SEC
Matt Satfford; improving, but still a soph.
Advantage:Tennessee

Tailbacks
LaMarcus Coker, Arian Foster, Montario Hardesty; Coker has the speed, Foster has the vision, Hardesty has the tackle-breaking power. All 3 are experienced.
Kregg Lumpkin, Thomas Brown, Knoshown Moreno; Lumpkin should be a very solid back as will brown, but inexperienced are Moreno and King.
Advantage: Tennessee

Fullbacks
There is none at UT.
Brannan Southerland is the best fullback in the SEC.
Advantage: Georgia

Tight Ends
Brad Cottam and Chris Brown will be huge if the VOls win the SEC title. They are experienced and Cottam is 6'8.
Tripp Chandler could be a star but is unproven.
Advantage: Tennessee

Wideouts
Tennessee is extremely inexperienced. Make no mistake, there is talent in Hancock, Rogers as Briscoe/Taylor must step up. Newcomers Kenny O'Neal and Brent Vinson should play immediately.
Georgia returns an experienced group of WR's who were plagued by dropped baklls last year. Massaquoi and Bailey should provide good targets for Matt Stafford.
Advantage: Georgia

Offensive Line
Many think the o-line will be a problem for the Vols this year, but Eric Young was just as good as All-American Arron Sears last season until he hurt his shoulder. Anthony Parker ia a solid veteran and Josh McNeil has All-American potential. Chris Scott, Ramon Foster, and Jacques McClendon must step up.
This may be Georgia's biggest weakness. The leftside of the line will be true frosh Trinton Sturdivant and rFrosh Chris Davis. Chester Adams moves over to RT and RG will JuCO transfer Scott Haverkamp. The line is anchored by Senior Fernando Velasco.
Advantage: Tennessee

Defensive Line
The Vols lost 2 lineman that went to the NFL but this line has speed. Demonte Bolden is very quick for 6'6 290 and JT Mapu should return to his previous form. Xavier Mitchell, Robert Ayers, Antonio Reynolds, Wes Brown, Andre Mathis and true Frosh Ben Martin provide very formidable end depth.
This may be the strength of the Jawja Bulldogs. Frosh All-Am. line clogger Kade Weston returns with Jeff Owens, who should be dominant. The ends are inexperience, but they will be formidable.
Advantage: Georgia

Linebackers
Tennessee has amazing depth at LB with All-SEC Jerod Mayo, senior leader Ryan Karl, and a budding star in Rico McCoy. Adam Myers-White, Dorian Davis, Ellix Wilson, and true frosh Chris Donald and Chris Walker should provide awesome depth.
Georgia loses all 3 starting linebackers, though they are inexperienced, they should be decent.
Advantage: Tennessee

Defensive Backs
Tennessee loses 3 starters, but returns ALl-SEC Jon Hefney. The Vols may have to rely on some newcomers such as Eric Berry, S Nevin McKenzie, and DeAngelo Willingham. Depending on how fast the newcomers pick up, this could be a dominant secondary.
Georgia's best defnder Paul Olliver is off the team, so there are some question marks here. Kellin Johnson and CJ Byrd will be good safeties and Asher Allen must step up at corner.
Advantage: Tennessee

Take that all you Jawja lovers.

Nice post oklavol.

Yup, because those 2005 games mean something in 2007.

Not directly, but looking at our miserable losses at home over the past decade, I would have trouble saying that Lex is crazy for calling the 2 games near 50/50. Especially when you consider that: 1) the '05 Georgia game was one of the most disgusting performances I've witnessed from the Vols, and that 2) Spurrier has owned us for a long time, and that this year's SC squad is certainly more talented than the '05 team.

That's a good point, and that's the second observation you can make.

The better the SR QB, the better the season. The best seasons listed were with 1st round NFL draft picks, Manning and Shuler.

Ainge set a new UT record for pass % complete last season, he could be awesome next season. Not to mention working with probably the best QB coach in the country. Thats why I think UT will play in the SEC Champ game.

The thing is he has a lot younger set or receivers than last year... I expect some of his numbers to drop.

You should remove Shuler from the Senior QB list.

Updated with all entries so far.

Let's get going guys. I still see a lot of prominent names missing from that list.

Right on the money Doc. That is why I tilt both match ups to the opponents. UT beat GA in 04 with arguably Richts best team, only to be humiliated in 05. Last year it swung UT's way, so I see the pendulum going back toward Athens. As far as SC goes, Spurrier just scares the crap out of me with all of his championship talk.

These are all just gut feelings and fun predictions.

I say 10-4.Well Have a pretty good season this year.Next Year Well Have A few More Losses. Then Well Win the SEC PossiBly National Championship Year After That.

Say we start a great season fired up and reproduce Cal '06. Continue that fire for the rest of the season, losing a close one to someone along the way and play in the SECCG. Winning it and playing in a BCS bowl, possibly the whole enchilata.

Im saying we lose to Ark reg season win the SEC east lose in SECCG to LSU and probably lose bowl games
