16 team playoff. Divide the nation into 4 divisions and take the top 4 from each.

It would prove absolutely nothing. If they win that conference, and I'm sure they will one day, it will not be as a true outsider. They will have all of the advantages that being in a major conference carries.

Not if they come in and win in their first year.

Do seeding like the rest of the NCAA tournaments are. Not sure why they would do any different. I'd like to see the SEC further it's claim to dominance with the championship game being essentially an SEC Championship rematch every year.

That is still arguable. It is already known that they will be moving, so the main thing they will be missing is the extra money. There should already have been a recruiting advantage from the deal by the time Utah actually competes in the conference.

The WAC looks much stronger this year than normal years.

Fresno State beat Cincinnati this week.
Hawaii played USC very close.
Nevada is decent.
Utah State almost beat Oklahoma.

Then oregon state played TCU very close on the road.

Obviously not the toughest schedule around, but if they go undefeated, I like them in the discussion if everyone else has 1 loss.

Why is a playoff impossible? Every other division of football has one.
Posted via VolNation Mobile

because unlike every other division who has a playoff to determine a champion, the purpose of college post season, aka the bowl season, isnt to produce winners. It is to make money for schools, for conferences, and to fund non revenue producing sports.

There are two reasons why there is no playoff. First, no one has been able to present a plan that will ensure these schools and conferences will net as much or more than what they get now. So far, there's only been guesses but guesses dont fly in big business. No one has addressed the extra expense of travel nor has any organization stepped up and said they would cover any extra expense. The TVs balked at the last BCS contract. No group of bowls have stepped up to say they will pay more if there's a playoff. In the end, its high, high risk with minimual reward.

The second reason is why would they? Currently they are experiencing an increase in viewers as well as revenue. You do no stop a winning mid stream. That saying, as soon as the revenues begin to flatten or dimish this could be more of a possiblity. Until then, it wont happen.

Every year the media says, "this is the year for them to prove themselves!" Yeah, they just beat a top 10 team on national TV, but did they not do something to a similar effect last season?

They didn't get bumped into national title consideration by beating Oregon last season (who went on to play in the Rose Bowl). It is always the same; they start out in the top 5, the media says this is the year, they beat the teams they needed to beat and everyone else, and by seasons end they don't get a sniff at the title game.

I don't see how it is going to be any different this season either. Even if Alabama lost 1 game if they beat Florida in the SEC Championship they will leap frog BS, and you can say that for other teams as well.

I agree with your point but this year if they go undefeated I just don't see them getting left out unless there are 2 major BCS teams undefeated then yes.

boise is clearly a top-10 team, but top 1 or 2? no way. also vtech never should have been ranked in the top-10.

When everyone was saying BSU couldn't possibly hang with Virginia Tech, I predicted that if BSU won the argument would change to, "well VT isn't that good anyway."

Just keep moving the bars and the lines...

Oregon State has a heisman candidate running back, was preseason top 25, and in a BCS conference. Yet everyone keeps marginalizing them as not the "one" team BSU plays. By that criteria, Tennessee only plays 3 games this year.

Bowls, TV, contracts. A lot of crap that's not likely to be resolved. Also, not sure how many schools really want a playoff.

There is no way you watch that game tonight and deny that Boise State is legit.

Why is it that Boise only plays ranked team at the BEGGINING of the season..If you give a team a whole year to prepare of VT why wouldn't they win.. Why don't they play teams like Texas, Ohio State, Iowa, USC, ect.. during the season..When they only have ONE week to prepare for a big game..22 returning players that have to play ONE big game all year...Let them do it every week like in the SEC and the other BCS teams...Then say of they are GOOD..until then they just play one game at the start of the season that you had ALL year to prepare for..The are only 7-7 against BCS schools in the past 8 yrs..playing most of them at the END of the year when they have had time to prepare over a month for them...

Some of those teams have rejected the request to play Boise. V Tech had a whole year to prepare for Boise as well so that is not a good comparison.

Because Teams like Texas, USC and Ohio State WON'T PLAY BOISE.
that is the problem.

You guys can hate on Boise all you like but they have accomplished way more then we have in the past years. Even if you take out the we play a tough schedule just factor in us playing a good team at the beginning and we still lose. I bet Boise wouldn't lose to UCLA if they played them.

Most BCS teams don't schedule Boise because they don't want to play a home and home with the Broncos. Why would Texas want to travel to Boise and play in gimmick stadium? If Texas wins, o well you are Texas you should have, if you lose, it hangs over you for a year and you are the big time team that lost to Boise. Ask Oklahoma how long a Boise loss follows you. Boise needs to start signing up to play more neutral games or just roll the dice and travel to these other teams with no return trip scheduled to Boise.

And Boise rejected The Cornhuskers to play 3 games..1 in Bosie and 2 in Nebraska!!!! Boise ONLY wants to play at HOME!!!! or at a neutral site...Go Figure..

VT has to prepare for the ACC Boise only has to get ready for VT maybe Oregan St. who will be OUT of the top 25 when they play BOISE... Boise was favored by
20+ points last year and hasn't lost a conf. game since when? Put them in a BCS conf. and then talk about how
good they are..

why must the comparison be relative to UT? Nobody's arguing that we've done anything but suck. We're debating the idea that these guys are one of the best teams in the country. They aren't. There isn't a single major conference in the country that they would win, including the Big Least.

I also bet they would beat FL,UGA,Gamecocks,Bama,Orgeon,LSU,KY, Miss St, and the rest of the teams we paly in one season either...Let them play a SEC or BIG 12 season that talk other than that you guys are blowing SMOKE like everyone else..There is a reason that don't travel to BIG SCHHOLS HOME... LOOK at VT season compared to BOSIEs:birgits_giggle:

Have you watched any ACC football the last couple of years? There was no way any team in that conference should have been Top 10 to start the season. How good was VPI suddenly supposed to have become?
