Can't really comment on guys I've never seen play or Unitas, Tarkenton, etc. would probably be in there somewhere.

1. Montana
2. Manning
3. Brady
4. Marino
5. Favre

6. Elway
7. Cunningham
8. Kelly
9. Moon (my favorite QB back in the day, but how much of his game was playing in a run and shoot?)
10. Brees

Unitas if the GOAT because he did it when most people looked at a football and said:

"You mean you can THROW this thing???"

Peyton is second, and this ends the list!

I have spoken! :p

Steve Young gets overlooked a lot too. If hasn't gotten stuck behind Montana for a number of years I think he would be higher up in the discussion.

Aaron Rodgers will be in the same boat. He didn't wait as long but will always be living up to a legend.

I am not a big list guy but BFavre doesnt belong in that company - he was a turnover machine and never understood risk/reward - he is basically Tony Romo

not even close to the caliber of those other QB's you list

I agree.

Favre in the top 5 is a joke. "Gunslinger" is not a good thing in my opinion. When other quarterback just throw it up, they're stupid. But when Favre did it, he was always a "gunslinger" with so much passion to win that game that he would try anything.

The only reason Favre gets so much credit is because he was a media darling (Madden would have married him given the chance). And his stats are padded by his 50 years in the league. Lets see how his yards per attempt, or TD's per season compare to the other greats. Lets not forget he's also the career leader in pass attempts, interceptions, and fumbles.

Also, Manning already has more records than Favre, and more MVPs. The only ones he's missing are the TDs and Yards. And you can bet he'll get them easily if he plays a couple more years.

You lost me at Favre.

I hope this is sarcasm. Dan Marino is one of the best QBs I've ever seen. Does this apply to other positions as well. I'm pretty sure Barry Sanders never won a SB. Would most people not give him a look? If so, most people are morons.

I agree. I don't understand how an "individual award" gets clouded by "team success".

Dan Marino was probably the best QB I've ever seen. The defenses on his teams were horrendous, except for his rookie season and it was decent. As a rookie he led his team to the SB! Saw him shred us at Neyland too. A man among boys.

Then Manning comes along, and I have to say that starting from scratch with a new team, I would take PM by a hair over DM. Tom Brady is fabulous too and certainly in the mix, but he has had an easier path to success with the players and coaches surrounding him.

Saying you have a have a ring to determine the best individual in a team sport is ludicrous to me. Trent Dilfer should be rated above Marino in every list were that the case. JMO.

Not taking anything from Tom Brady, but think about it. Brady had a knee injury a few years back and Matt Cassell stepped in and i believe they won 9-10 games and made the playoffs.

On the other hand Peyton Manning had the neck injury and the Colts went 1-15.

Doing a little comparing here, so who seemed to be more important to their team and who seems to shine because they have better played around them?

I like this list, 2&3 are interchangeable for me. Marino doesn't get enough love, talk about a dude with not much talent around him. His numbers would be crazy today, best pure passer I ever saw. I would drop Randall a little, and slide Young in there somewhere.

I was at that Neyland game when Marino played for Pitt. Seems like 30-6 without looking it up.

This was a guy who had a serious drug issue who fought threw it to become the best of all time, by the stats. Had he had a better offensive line, he'd have even better stats. In all his years in Green Bay, he had linemen selected to the Pro Bowl 5 times, and 3 of those were Marco Rivera. To do what he did without ever having an elite offensive lineman, and to stay healthy for so long, is what makes him one of the greatest of all time.

He was sacked 525 times. Peyton has been sacked 270 times. The Offensive Line makes a HUGE impact.

He got sacked because he had unhappy feet.
