Trump vs DeSantis 2024

So....you believe folks up and move from California and NY to Florida because they believe DeSantis is "great leader??"
They like the policies in place in FL more than those states. I think covid response was a big part of that and DeSantis was great in that issue. There's also the state/local taxes that don't cripple people like the do in NY or CA

When Trump was considered to be what was best for the Republican Party, very few conservatives had an issue with his unique communication style.

Now that’s he’s no longer considered what’s best for the Republican Party, without changing who he is whatsoever, now many see him as a problem.

It’s like some of you expected the guy to evolve. 😂
I still don't see his communication style as a problem. If democrats are doing it then so can he. Democrats threw civility in the trashcan 6 years ago.

I see what you are saying. Trumps style is to burn everything down that gets in his way. That's all well and good, except for when you go after potentially important allies.

I'd put my $ on the bolded being the most likely reason. JMO.

Definitely part of it as is overall cost of living and job creation is higher in these areas. It’s almost like people don’t have to be made to feel like victims in theses rationally ran places.

which goes back to dem leadership

I know many people with kids looked at our covid response though. We only lost 2 months of school at the beginning of covid and were back to normal after that summer. The mental health of my kids outweighs any tax savings

I believe it has a lot to do with the way things were handled in Florida. States like California and New York introduced and enforced absolutely draconian covid laws. A friend of mine who moved here to GA from California 2 years ago witnessed it first-hand. I believe DeSantis response to Covid is a huge reason for the popularity among freedom loving people. My personal opinion is the last 2 years proved that DeSantis is a great leader. Thats my opinion. You are entitled to your opinion. Just out of curiosity, in your opinion, what governor did a better job and had a better response during Covid?

Do you think Trump sees DeSantis as an “important ally”?

The assumption is that IF Trump were to defeat DeSantis in the primary that DeSantis would have a decision to make as to whether he would support Trump as nominee.

As I recall, each of the GOP hopefuls -- once vanquished by Trump -- immediately knelt and kissed his ring. It is always true that candidates for the nomination support the winner, but in the case of Trump it was completely way out there that guys like Cruz would tout him. I mean, the nicknames, the claim his father played a role in killing Kennedy ... that is remarkable testament to the lack of any principle or backbone for Cruz.

The only GOP candidate I remember who didn't completely capitulate was Jeb Bush. And he basically stayed mum.

My mom and dad are as diehard MAGA as it comes. They specifically told me yesterday that if Trump goes after DeSantis they will move on. Anecdotal but telling, imo.

I was on the fence for a while. I was hoping Trump was simply holding off on announcing just so the media would continue to focus on him. The shots he's taken at DeSantis are completely uncalled for and classless.

The Tweet last night from Trump about DeSantis was a huge L for Trump, IMO. Desperate, hysterical.

Trump is not wrong whatsoever that he initially "made" DeSantis. It's 100% accurate. DeSantis does not win the Republican nomination and probably the governorship itself without Trump's endorsement. Hell, he barely beat Gillum with his endorsement.

Unfortunately for him, that doesn't change the fact that lots of people like him, and I bet more Trumpers will start to like him as they discover DeSantis is Trump in a lot of ways without the baggage. Since DeSantis has been governor, he's proven to be a shrewd political operator, independent of Trump, and has built a following of his own apart from his connection to Trump. Donald hates that, because it has to be all about him.

I think Trump doesn't realize that he is alienating more people by attacking DeSantis than he realizes. People were looking for an alternative to Trump with a similar America first agenda, without the gruff exterior. Trump was somewhat subdued the last couple of years, but it looks like he's right back to his old ways.
